I applaud your effort, but you might have the worst timing, since there is no one in school right now. bttt this after fall semester has started.

bumpbtw 25y/o Grad Student w/7yrs experience in chemistry > 19y/o Sophmore who passed Chem 101 last year. My prices are fair/average for what I offer. If you go through the chemistry department for private tutoring you are looking at $30/hr.[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 4:29 PM. Reason : .]

Since it's the beginning of the year and a lot of students do not know any better, I'll emphasize that you can get free tutoring on campus in most subjects. I use to work for the Undergraduate Tutorial Center tutoring Zoology and Calculus as a one on one tutor and then I worked tutoring Writing and Speaking. http://www.ncsu.edu/tutorial_center/

Have fun trying to get help in the chemistry tutorial center, it's about 15 students per tutor there.Again, what I am offering is 1-on-1 private tutoring with an experienced graduate student. I have degrees in both physics and chemistry and an currently working on my PhD. The next level of tutor above me is your professor, and his time is much more limited. In my honest opinion, if you really want to get all A's, seek all the tutoring you can get. Spend your time at the chemistry tutorial center in FOX, go to SI, speak with your professor regularly, study in groups with friends, and receive private tutoring from experienced students like me. That will give you the best chance. Many of those options are free, and although I charge a fee, my quality of instruction is superior to many other options you have available. Also, as I mentioned before, I've checked prices of available tutors through the chemistry department and they are running about $30/hour, so I am cutting a break here. Good Luck.

well okay then.

I did it at 15 an hour for Dr. Warren and Dr. Sandberg's class to save up money for dental school. If you're interested in tutoring, I would suggest that you do it on a voluntary basis at first to get your reputation going, and then once you establish a reputation, you can start charging money because people will know that they will get results. Don't offer to tutor if you don't know your stuff; that's simply unethical.

Also, I should add...tutoring in these subjects helps to reinforce your knowledge of these subjects so that when it comes to taking the DAT or MCAT, those subjects will be a breeze for you.

yah i had a kick ass tutor for 2 semesters and he was older and he only cost me $15(i actually think it was $10 but that just doesn't seem possable)

anyone who pays $20/hr for a tutor in general chemistry needs to drop out of school immediately and pray that food lion is still hiring

I think ultimately, one needs to realize the importance of challengng himself/herself to a chemistry class. Chemistry is a difficult subject, and so are other biological and engineering majors. I hate to put down the sociology, psychology, criminology, social sciences, and other irrelevant fields, but they were just a waste of my time! Please direct the hate-mail to my inbox.I guarantee you that once you get into a professional program, they won't stop and ask you if you know about the H-H (Henderson-Hasselbalch equation) buffer equation and understand its importance in physiological conditions. They'll go on and lecture about how a local anesthetic can block the sodium channels from causing a depolarization event, etc...I hope you understand where I'm getting at...If you complain about how hard the classes were that happened to be directed by Drs. Warren, Sandberg, Brown, Emigh, and numberous other professors, you have no idea what's waiting for you when you come into a professional program. I admit that these classes were difficult, but it certainly shaped out my study skills and made me learn the material. I am grateful that I learned the material while in undergrad because it helped make my professional program less stressful.Should you require a tutor, please contact the chemistry dept or talk to the professors themselves if you need help. Drs. Sandberg, Warren, Brown and others are delighted to meet with hard-working students and are willing to help them out!
