Maskaev's knockout powerPeter's knockout power

never heard of either to tell you the truth.

yeah heavyweight boxing's mainstream interest has plummetted since the retirement / falling off of Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, etcPeter is a beast though and my pick to win this fight...he's never been knocked down! And on the bright side I'm pretty sure its on Showtime (ie its not on Pay Per View)

Kessler-Calzaghe and Mayweather-Hatton will be good fights. Kessler has an awesome looking tattoo. As for this fight, Peter is the most Tyson-looking fighter in the HW division (pre-rape/earbiting).[Edited on August 25, 2007 at 5:46 PM. Reason : .]

Peter is no Mike Tyson...yet...but Peter has also never been knocked down in his life...everHe also has his head on a lot straighter than Tyson, ie he's not a complete psychopath

there is never going to be anyone even close to mike tyson. he was undefeated for close to 40 fights. he had power AND speed. and he completely dominated everyone at the start.and the complete psycopath part, while eventually ending his career, is a large part of what has made him so memorable.im still looking forward to this tourney though.

yeah he'd have to go nuts and just beat everyone to even think about maybe approaching tyson...but i think he might be able to hit as hard, although obviously he's not as agile on his feet...still he's my favorite current heavyweight and i think he has the most potential to bring some increased interest in the heavyweight division

I think Peter wins this one pretty easy. Maskaev is way past his prime and won this title in an uninteresting fight in which he didn't look good, he just managed to not be as bad as the other guy. Peter then has a mandatory against Vitaly Klitschko where he probably eeks out a decision. That at least sets up a story line to get two belt holders in the ring together where I say he either gets knocked out or beaten soundly by Wladamir in a rematch. Peter hits a ton, but just has shown no ring generalship and little besides that massive punching power so far. He should have crushed James Toney in their two matches but even with an over the hill out of shape Toney, he was unable to finish the job.Saying that he is like Tyson is just nuts. Their power is the only thing they have in common, and Peter seems to only have that explosive knockout power in one hand. I'm not on the Tyson is/was the greatest of all time bandwagon because he fought in a soft era (even softer than we are currently in if you can believe it) and he got dominated twice by Holyfield and pummeled by Lewis when he finally ran into a high caliber opponent. But a young Tyson would destroy Peter with his movement and two handed power punching.I hope the scenario above plays out because as long as there are 3-4 guys running around with belts claiming to be the champion, no one is going to be interested. Klitschko and Peter do appear to be the class of the devision and they are both relatively young. Until the governing bodies are able to work together some and the fighters quit ducking every legitimate threat, heavyweight boxing will remain in the toilet.

i agree tyson isnt one of the greatest. definitely the craziest, and one of the most entertaining though.but his physical tools in his prime were ridiculous. i do wonder how differently his career would have been if cus and his former manager (can't remember his name, but he was one of the few people who didn't take advantage of him, and i think kept him in check) had lived longer.but there are so many good fights this year coming up and that have already happened in lower weight divisions. people need to check them out. heavyweight isnt the only division that matters.
8/28/2007 5:23:06 PM
yeah cus damato seemed to somehow know how to keep mike's focus...when he died and don king took over that was the beginning of the endand i completely agree that the heavyweight division isnt the only one that matters...its just all the other divisions have been better than the heavyweight division, basically since lewis left, if not before that...but i think peter has the best chance of all the current fighters to reinvigorate any type of semblance of mainstream interest in heavyweight boxing
