?? What's the problem?

apparently theres no way to play shockwave on Linux except through WINE, which has a tendency to crash.unless ive missed something

People stopped using shockwave forever ago? What are you trying to do that you need it?And there is something called ie4linux or something like that that will automatically install IE using WINE for you. At which point, you can just go to the website and install the shockwave plug-in using IE. I haven't seen embedded shockwave since the 90's though.[Edited on August 3, 2007 at 1:15 PM. Reason : ]

my wife's freakin CD-ROMs that come with her medical textbooks.after some difficulty, i got the citrix server running so she can network into her hospital intranet. now shes got some damn patho and physiology textbook companion CDs that run shockwave and trying to run it through WINE causes the browser to intermittently crash. the "restore session" on FF helps, but its still annoying as fuck.and she keeps saying "the CD says minimum installation requirements is Windows. Cant we just install Windows?" :grr:
8/3/2007 1:18:15 PM
wow, that's pretty lame. i would blame whoever made the companion CDs. another option would be to try using a virtual PC, that may be more stable but probably won't run smoothly. that or dual-booting... or telling her to get her own damn computer?

well, since shockwave was designed for IE, maybe i'll have better luck running that in WINE.

^ but you're about to install IE? if you're going to force her to do anything it should be to take classes somewhere the use up-to-date resources... or have a freaking computer lab.

VMware Player is free, and it looks like you don't even need Workstation to create VMs for it anymore:http://www.ffnn.nl/pages/articles/linux/vmware-player-image-creation.php

dude, just fucking install windows so she can get her work done.seriously this is why I hate Linux. You can do anything, it just takes 40000000 times longer and never works quite right.
