Ok, so I just got back from vacation to find that my computer is acting weird. I keep all my Norton Anti-Virus 2006 up to date and there was a Windows Security Alert that I needed to update it again. So I updated it, and after downloading the needed updates a message popped up and said it was a successful update. BUT for some reason it still said in the main Norton Security area AND in Windows Security that my antivirus is out of date. I tried updating again but it said all the updates have been installed. I was so desperate I installed AVG Free edition, and went through the same damn thing.I need some help! I've never had these kind of problems before. Any comments/suggestions???

anybody? Could it be the firewall preventing me?I just hate using the internet without some good AV

ya know, it's interesting how quickly anti-virus protection went from 10/10 to 0/10i haven't used AV in 6 years. see http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000923.html for relevant discussionof course, these are relevant as well. so who knows.http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/lockdownyourpc/a/hackingvideo.htmhttp://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/01/honeypot_test/etc[Edited on August 2, 2007 at 11:48 PM. you really don't need an antivirus program if you use common sense.

^ couldn't disagree with you more. An up-to-date antivirus product is an integral component of any decent set of security tools.Even if you're using a great firewall and avoid visiting malicious websites, etc., it only takes ONE mistake. If you don't have AV when you make that tiniest mistake, then you're screwed. It's not smart to take the chance.
