After about a year getting body damage repaired I got my car back a few days ago. 1959 Triumph TR3 motor. When I had it before I would rarely drive it, but I am trying to get it more roadworthy. Normally when driving after a few miles it would overheat, replacing the fan and recoring the radiator, new tstat, aswell as adding a scoop helped a lot, but it still would overheat (maybe something to do with the 50 year old cooling system). When revving the motor with the gas cap off, the coolant would look normal and not bubble like a blown h/g would make it.It still hasn't run in a year and I am going to work on the carbs a lot, as well as most of the other engine systems before I try to crank it over. I do have a compression tester so once I get it cranking I will test the compression, but until then do you think the grey goo may be indicative of a blown h/g? this would explain the overheating, but the coolant and oil seem fine and no bubbling in the radiator. The pan is coated with a good bit off sludge. Under the black layer of sludge is a thin grey layer of sludge, and a grey area can be seen at the front of the oil pan.http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h302/rrtull/?action=view¤t=CIMG1124.jpg[Edited on August 2, 2007 at 11:44 AM.
