Solaris - Dir. Steven Soderbergh - http://imdb.com/title/tt0307479/

The Fountain - Dir. Darron Aronofsky - http://imdb.com/title/tt0414993/

Sunshine - Dir. Danny Boyle - http://imdb.com/title/tt0448134/

I guess I just have a thing for pretty space movies...

I can't find any good stills of Sunshine, but oh well.

^, ^^

Hero isn't even Zhang Yimou's best use of color. In fact, the colors in Hero were so stupidly slapdash that I wondered why he bothered at all: he's done so much better in other films.

If anyone could explain the Fountain to me, I would be very appreciative. It was "pretty" but the execution of the "plot" kinda killed it...

dude had a wife that died, and he was sad but he found out how to live forever. and he planted a tree at her grave.

and he was the same dude in the "spaceship" (bubble) and he was taking the tree aka his wife up the nebula in space that they looked at. but then he gave up and died

yeah, not a good explanation, im drunk. but that movie is really underrated/awesome imo

As soon as I read the thread title I instantly thought of "What Dreams May Come", so I'll third it.

Too bad the movie wasn't as good as the book but it was a beautiful movie.

Barry Lyndon

The plot is boring as hell, but it's like matching an oil painting turned into a movie. The landscape shots are amazing. There is this one scene Kubrick shot with some custom optics developed by NASA. The scene was lit with ONLY candlelight. The focal depth of the lens was so shallow (inches) the actors could barely move during the scene.

I thought Memoirs of a Geisha was quite beautifully filmed. The movie kinda sucked, but at least it looked good. It looked a lot like the book read, if that makes any sense. The writing in the book is so beautiful that it makes you not notice that the plot is really pretty boring. The movie looked really good, but not quite good enough to prevent me from being bored out of my skull.
