By denying Odell Thurman's application to re-enter the league after his 1-year suspension for violating the drug policy, Goodell has made this a *2* year suspension. 2 years for violating the drug policy and a DUI? For those who don't know the story, he was suspended 4 games for violating the drug policy, got a DUI at this time, and Goodell decided to extend the suspension to a year based on that. Odell was accused by 2 douches that he kicked them, but they later dropped the case. Now Goodell is like "try again next year kthx bye."He had reportedly been working construction lately and had gotten his act together. What the fuck did he go through the rehab program for if some douchebag commissioner is going to suspend him for another year anyway. Mr. Goodell, suspend Vick or Joey Porter or something if you really need to stroke yourself, but this two-faced "crack down" on behavior in the NFL needs to go right back up your ass where it came from.[/rant]

is it really that hard to keep in line
7/26/2007 3:39:51 PM
Would he have gotten flat out fired from any other sort of job for the same offenses? Yes. Several times over yes.Is it really that hard to stay out of trouble with the law?[/thread][Edited on July 26, 2007 at 3:41 PM. Reason : ^lol. faster than me]
7/26/2007 3:41:21 PM
i understand he's tryna make a point in the league, and its needed people need to keep their shit togetherbut i agree he went out on a limb with this one
7/26/2007 3:42:24 PM
blame it on that reefer
He has stayed out of trouble since the DUI, there are precedents set in place for this shit and Goodell is ignoring them
7/26/2007 3:43:04 PM
I thought Odell just did something else here recently... cant remember what, all the things those people do run together now
7/26/2007 3:43:09 PM
goodell is going to MAKE these guys stay in line, i don't think he cares how many people he has to make examples of
7/26/2007 3:44:36 PM
I like the new Commissioners response on players acting out of line. Set the rules, enforce them. Here's to hoping Vick gets at least a half season, if not whole season upper deck pass.I love the game of football and the NFL, and hate the image the athletes are portraying right now. III
7/26/2007 3:44:52 PM
i bet vick gets less of a suspension for the dogfighting
7/26/2007 3:44:53 PM
i though it was popular opinion that vick was never playing again
7/26/2007 3:46:30 PM
well, IIRC, they are not going to let Vick play this year so, i mean...there you go
7/26/2007 3:50:53 PM
7/26/2007 4:02:01 PM
they shouldn't let him back in the NFLamazingly, cycling of all sports has got the shit right...you get busted, you're good as gone. wearing the yellow jersey in the biggest cycling race of the year? doesn't matter...GTFO. No playing while on appeal, no second chances...fucking terminated

Call me crazy, but I'm more concerned about drunk drivers than I am with someone who fights dogs on their own time.
7/26/2007 8:26:38 PM
Goodell is handling his league better than any other commish right now.

count me in on the goodell supporters. IMO he's not afriad of punishing the big boys, even if its detrimental in the short term.

did you guys forget that the ontarrio smith was not reinstated after the whole whizzanator thing. so thurmans non-reinstatment is not exactly unprecedented. the jared allen thing is different in the eyes of the league because he never failed any drug tests.[Edited on July 27, 2007 at 4:38 PM. Goodell is the man. He's got much bigger balls than Tagliabue, Stern, President Bush, and Selig put together.
7/28/2007 7:36:51 PM
7/28/2007 8:03:32 PM
Goodell should suspend some players without providing a reason every once in a while, just to let everyone know who's boss.
7/28/2007 9:28:45 PM
Or, you know, you could make excuses for players who repeatedly forget how to play by the rules.
7/28/2007 9:54:24 PM
blah I hope none of you guys are Josh Hamilton fans

HAI GUYS I HAVE AN IDEA. WHEN YOURE GETTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PLAY SPORTS FOR A LIVING, DONT STUPIDLY BREAK RULES AND SCREW IT UP FOR YOURSELF.kthx.signed,no sympathy
7/30/2007 8:46:19 AM
I Love the new rules and suspension's being handed down. Just because they can play football does that give them the right to break the law?? If your a teacher and get a DUI you cna kiss your job good bye and you will probably not find another one. I am tired of all these Sport players thinking they are above the law. If our courts aren't going to do anything to them then let the commissioner do it. If they realize what will happen to them if they screw up then just maybe they might start acting like they have some sense.
7/30/2007 9:15:28 AM
ditto im tired of everyone wanting sympathy for everything, and everyone else wanting us to sympathize with athletes etc. Its a huge problem we have today. Everyone is a victim, no one wants responsibility, and everyone wants second chances. second chances are ok...but when they are EXPECTED like they seem to be today, they mean nothing, and soon they are wanting a third, fourth, and fifth forgiveness.maybe a few people need to serve as examples but some things have to change[Edited on July 30, 2007 at 9:26 AM. No drugs are the same thing. You are still breaking the law. Non of these athletes ever go to jail they just get put on probabtion. Its mainly due to the fact they can afford lawyers to get them out of trouble while regular working class individuals can not. If you get arrested 8 times in a year like pacman did then you did something wrong. He might be innocent but he still put himself in the position to get in that trouble. Getting a DUI isn't a little thing either most of us know atleast one person who was killed in a accident that involved a drunk driver. If you play with fire you eventually will get burned. Its sad because for all of these troubled players getting all the media attention there are probably 100 or more guys that do right and stay out of trouble. Maybe one day owners and coaches will not put up with this type of behavior.
