What are the laws in Raleigh for shooting? Can I just find an open place and start shooting without getting arrested? I don't really want to pay but if I have to does anyone know of any ranges in the area?

You should get a silencer so that you don't attract unwanted attention.

I tried this a while back and didn't get any answers. But I'd like to know as well. Actually, I guess I'd like to find ones in Durham, since I live there now.

Carolina Outdoor Sportsman at the intersection of Strickland and Six Forks has one. I had one in my garage for awhile but too many holes in the wall killed that idea.

I was just about to post a new thread but saw this one.Are there any archery clubs/groups in the area? (Especially towards Durham and north)I am interested in getting started but need some info/advice.

I found this place in Durham.http://www.dcwc.net/archery.htmlI haven't been out to check it out yet though. I'd really like to get some shooting in before it gets really cold, and it sounds like they have a decent target course.

i talked to student legal services about this a while back, and apparently the answer is that it's illegal to shoot within the city limits (maybe county) pretty much anywhere, though the only place theyd probably get on you about it is any kind of public property. My problem was that I didnt know anyone with private property outside Raleigh city limits I could go shoot at.I remember there being a place over in Durham that was a shooting and archery range, but I never explored it any further really.I'll bookmark this thread, and if you guys figure out a place to shoot, especially if it's free. I'd be down for going.

There's that place I posted that's in Durham. I haven't looked into it at all though. I just want to know when it's open and if there are fees/if you have to be a member, etc. I just haven't gotten around to calling them to ask.

I found out more about the DCWC range I posted. It's $8 to shoot, and it's supposedly open Saturdays 11 - 3 and Sunday 1 - 5. Members have access outside those hours, but it's expensive. There's a fee of $100 for "initiation" plus $175 membership dues per year. I might go check it out one weekend if I'm so inclined.

where does the university go, out of curiosity?

I don't think we have a club or anything, if that's what you mean. The PE class is on the basketball courts in the gym.

I could be wrong, but I can't find anything about one. It's not that bad on the courts. It's short-range, obviously, but that's not surprising. I don't know that I'd want beginners shooting at 60 meters.
