Hell no.

Single handedly destroyed MB's "initial quality" ratings when it came out.
Quit trying to be high falootin' on a budget.

If you're looking for a mid size SUV (of little use IMO, because they can't tow as much as a fullsize and the gas mileage isn't really any better for practical purposes); I'd consider something made by Toyota.

Land Rovers fall apart on the regular. As a matter of fact, it's somewhat irregular to see one that doesn't fall apart.

to the original poster: arent you the guy who bought that overpriced series one discovery from an arab car dealer on capital? then ended up in some fiasco over the valve job it needed?

your SUV is falling apart, and you want to get another one that is going to fall apart?

why do you want to get a luxury suv? if you answer is because it is your own money and you will buy what you can afford, fine. then at least buy something that will last. get a japanese [luxury] suv.

Honestly I am driving a focus too and from work right now. I have a 45 minute commute and it gets lilke 30 miles to the gallon.

I am trying to trade in my shit for something that my girlfriend wont mind driving since
I am driving her shit and racking up ridiculous miles. Probably gonna be an RX300.

The land rover really has not given me that much trouble. The valve job that it needed is done, the brakes only have a couple thousand miles on them. The rotors were replaced ($texas labor) when the brakes were done. I replaced the tires.

I just dont feel like fixing the ehaust leak and replacing the shocks that it needs. It also needs some minor body work..

I just got a new job.

optimus's pm response posted if anyone else might be interested.

The pads and roters were recently replaced. The valve job was done when I bought it and no problems with the engine at all since. The tires are in good shape, michelins. An oil switch was replaced when it was spewing oil everywhere. Since then I have the occasional drip but land rovers notorious for that. It has NEVER been low on oil as long as I have had it. I check the oil every time I get gas.

The interior is not that great of shape but if you are gonna use it for off roading it may not matter to you. The dvd player was installed at circuit city and has a labor warranty. I have the stock headunit still or a less expensive pioneer one I could throw in if you dont want the dvd player. It is in need of a new set of shocks but if you are thinking about lifting it that wont matter either. It has 94k on it and had 67k when I bought it.

There are some small body dents, and some plastic trim peices missing, a lot of the paint needs buffing. If you know anything about Discoveries you can pretty much guess whats wrong with the interior. The power seat switches have fallen out but still work fine. The OBD connection port broke but the plug works fine and they used it at the last inspection. Some of the wood grain is cracked. The leather is slightly worn. The clock is burnt out. The cruise control is tempermental. Keyless entry does not work but the control might work if someone sprayed some contact cleaner in it and changed the battery.

Honestly I think its at the age where it could make someone an excellent off road truck. It has been taken care of mechanically and all work while I had it was done by Discovery Automotive (land rover specialists) with the exception of oil changes which I have done. I also replaced the drivers window regulator about a year ago. Could be a great truck for someone that does not mind giving it the TLC it needs. I have never had a problem getting the axles unlocked (I have read that is common). Usually when disengaging you just have to back up a few feet. The AC works awesome.

This is the SE-7 model with leather, dual sunroofs, running boards, etc."

I second the Yota or Tahoe recommendations. There was a 2000 4Runner with leather on Craigslist yesterday for $9000 or so. Unlike the benz it will still be roadworthy five years from now.
