Japanese dude finally broke the record after 8 years of trying, 10:01 in the Suzuki Grand Vitara (ESCUDO BABY) Btw, I want to race in this fucking thing so badly, shooting for 2009 since 2010 is likely going to be the last race ever. It's only 1100 bucks and that buys you three days of practice runs on top of the actual race day. Not bad for the money.

they are paving it

Did they already pave part of it?The only video of the run on YouTube (do a search on "pikes peak 2007 suzuki", 1st result) shows him on pavement. My favorite video of Pikes Peak (The Peugot one called "Climb Dance") didn't show any pavement at all.

it's still a little more than half unpaved. I think like 7 of the 12 miles is still dirt, but they are paving a couple of miles a year.Yea, as soon as the upper switchbacks start getting paved, the race will be over for good.I've heard anywhere from 2009 to 2012 being the final year, but I'm not trying to take any chances.

lame.... I wonder if they tried thinking of some sort of road bed containment thing? the environmental problems involve run off from the road related to the piles and piles of gravel they keep putting on it
