07 Infiniti G35 Journey, Lakeshore Slate.I can't say enough about it!I test drove probably about 15 cars because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted... ie; SUV, truck, small sedan, luxury sedan, hybrid sedan, CUV or sports car.I test drove everything from a Honda Civic, CRV (Which I really wanted until I drove it, twice! Most uncomfortable seats ever made!) Lexus, Ford 150 Super Crew Cab, Escape Hybrid, Explorer in two trims, Camary, Tacoma, Acura line, Porche Cayman, RX-8, 350Z, Altima, Maxima, BMW 330 & 525i and the believe it or not the Subaru Outback line.I finally decided on the G35 because as a sedan, nothing equaled it except the 5 series BMW which it doesn't compete with as the 5 is in a class above, and with Navi, costs about 18K more.If you have the cash, which I honestly did, but didn't want it all wrapped up in a single vehicle, go with the tricked out 5 series.Because I'm a cheap bastard and not really a techie car guy, I choose the G35 and am planning on going to carmax or scanning the newspaper for a nice used pickup that I can go fishing in and go to Home Depot or Lowes in to haul mulch and pine straw in.Just my .02.

nice work

beautifulnow...pics!

Ummm... because you are 'cheap', you got the G35?I don't know what fantasy world you are living in, but the G35 costs about as much as the US median yearly income for working adults.OK, maybe I guess what you meant is relative to what you could afford (Cayman, 525i), you chose the 'cheap'er option.

this thread is worthless without pics. post em up
7/20/2007 11:33:41 PM
congrats, i got to drive the new 07 g35s yesterday and it was absolutely great
7/21/2007 12:23:29 AM
cheap is relative folks
7/21/2007 3:45:06 AM
Did you test drive a BMW 335i? I would have gone with that.
7/21/2007 9:32:47 AM
I'm sure they got one hell of a deal on it and a 335 isn't THAAAAAT much better i mean you're looking at a 7 to 12k price difference depending on dealers and model close out prices.]
7/21/2007 10:44:04 AM
Im considering one of those, that or an IS350. Could you discuss the specifics of the deal you got, and where and who you dealt with. Also, what kind of offers were you getting on the 3 series? Thanks
7/21/2007 12:18:05 PM
toyota was dumb to take the inline out of the IS they single handedly lost all their fanboys in 1 dumb move. i'm sure it wouldn't pass emissions or something but still. now its just a rwd camry that looks better.
7/21/2007 12:21:07 PM
My little brother got a G35s from Lake Norman Infiniti. Great car and he got a good deal. I'd recommend going there. My dad has a M45 and he takes it there almost every week to get it washed for free on the way to his commute to his other office. Great customer service. Also the last few years of 3 series have looked like ass. You won't be able to get the same power for as cheap with the IS. I think the IS250 and the G35 can be had for the similar price.[Edited on July 21, 2007 at 12:26 PM. Reason : also]
7/21/2007 12:25:03 PM
The Lexus IS shares jack shit with the Camry. Only think I dislike about it is you can't get a 6sp manual in the 350 model. Compared to the G35 the BMW smokes it in performance, refinement, and cost of ownership (first few years at least, as BMW pays for everything). The 3 series also has the mildest form (thank God) of that hideous Bangle styling.Of course there's always something to be said for hefty discounts at the dealership.
7/21/2007 12:30:56 PM
the g35 sedan is cheaper than i had imagined.I guess the only one i ever looked up was the coupe. Nice looking car.[Edited on July 21, 2007 at 1:21 PM. Reason : cheap being relative. its still expensive, dont get me wrong.]

7/21/2007 2:14:49 PM
you bought a new old car when G37 just came out??????????? talk about bad timing.
7/21/2007 2:20:47 PM
again i'm sure one hell of a deal was received.
7/21/2007 2:21:59 PM
^^ G37 is the coupe (Maybe the sedan will become a G37 as well, but there are no rumours of that sort going around, which probably means not gonna happen until next generation.)
7/21/2007 2:30:28 PM
^^^the G35 is new for 2007.^^yes they share the same engine, but output is significantly different. Not to mention entire drivetrain.
7/21/2007 3:59:02 PM
its just a hissy fit man, i know they're not the same but, it is silent and if anything has that funky camry metalic engine noiseit no longer has the inline snarl but god knows i hate the nissan engine's sound too cause it sounds like a video game.
7/21/2007 4:12:33 PM
what did you think if the Z?too much form, not enough function?
7/21/2007 7:49:04 PM
nice car..did you get the hard drive and CD ripping abilities?? I'm not sure if it's an option to not have it but was reading about it earlier and it sounds pretty awesome
7/21/2007 8:10:21 PM
Mine's still more fun .... ehhh, maybe we can trade for a day
7/21/2007 10:19:45 PM
7/22/2007 4:39:01 AM
^5 I inline 6's. I was so pissed when Mercedes went to V6s
7/22/2007 12:15:34 PM
yeah i like inlines 6's flat 4s and rotary's the inline six i know is the most durable but i just like weird engines.
7/22/2007 1:24:34 PM
test drove a brand new 6 speed G35 coupe, the 307hp one, and I've been in my friend's 06 sedan (with auto). First and second gear pull really hard but they both seem to fall flat on the highway
7/23/2007 12:10:16 PM
road tests from Car and Driver and Road & Track would suggest that its not faster than the previous model. Might even be slightly slower thanks to being A LOT heavier.
7/23/2007 1:40:32 PM
7/23/2007 1:46:53 PM
Yeah as was mentioned above, the G37 is the coupe, which I was leaning towards as well. I liked the 350 Z to but in all actuality, just as with the Cayman it came down to I really wanted a four door that had usable back seats. The Cayman, G35 and Z would make awesome weekend or fun cars, but not as a daily driver. I can't afford to have a weekend car anyway! Yes, it has the 9 Gig hard drive. It would be alot better if you could download from an Ipod or record off of the radio or the XM. It has the audio jacks in the center console along with a power adapter as well. I would have liked to be able to see and control my Ipod from the touch screen or steering wheel. Here is a picture of the front.I bought mine from Crossroads Infiniti and they have been super. They even fixed a scratch I found three days after I had it home.
7/23/2007 2:00:20 PM
who was your salesperson?
7/23/2007 2:06:25 PM
Worthless.I like my 40 thousand dollar cars to come with 747 wings.
7/23/2007 2:55:29 PM
7/23/2007 3:16:11 PM
i would suspect that it has more to do with crash ratings than anything elseyou think that manufacturers want to put more steel in a car? have you seen steel prices lately?
7/23/2007 3:56:25 PM
Yeah this upward trend in car masses is only going to continue as time goes by.Safety structures/equipmentLuxury (seats, electronics, gizmos, etc)Sound proofing....... ?will ensure that upward trend. One day the Corolla, Civic, Sentra, etc (or maybe I should say Yaris, Jazz, Versa, etc) would be as big/heavy as today's Avalon, Legend (RL), Maxima, respectively. Of course by then, several new smaller/lighter models would have been introduced to fit the gaps in the mid, compact, and subcompact categories (as is happening now), and today's Avalon and Maxima would be the size/mass of today's largest German cars. And where would they (today's large German, RR, Bentley) be at that time? 747s?
7/23/2007 4:05:04 PM
^unfortunately, yep. people wouldn't stand for a 1200lb car anymore. too loud, not padded enough. Lets forget the fact that the 1200lb car from the 60's upfitted with airbags and crumple zones would be far more safe than the 3000lb econo car of today. People still dont understand momentum
7/23/2007 4:14:47 PM
1200lbs? huh? What cars were ever 1200lbs within the past 50 years, besides maybe a beetle and like an MG?

the Sales manager at Infiniti was a complete tool. the short guy with an accent. He viciously lowballed my 97 Q45t with 20,000 original miles on it when I was checking out its value to see if it was worth trading in. He offered me $8000 when he had a 99 there on the lot with 92,000 miles and a tag of 16,500. They are the same generation car even though that one is of course two years newer.
7/23/2007 5:18:11 PM
Like it or not, that's still a 10 year old car. According to NADA, your car low retail is $8600 with those miles. You won't get that much for a trade in.I just don't believe you about them wanting 16500 for the 99.
7/23/2007 5:28:41 PM
hey mattjmrespond to my pm's about the fridge

The increase in weights is kind of staggering when you think about it. A 2003 A4 has a curb weight of over 3700 lbs--that's within 100 lbs of my old '96 Lincoln Mark VIII, which was one hell of a lot bigger in every dimension. It's only 400 lbs. less than my current Marauder which is one of the largest cars on the road, at least dimension-wise, and it's the same year ('03). The causes are obvious, in that folks want their safety equipment and want their luxury features, but one does wonder where it will stop.

7/23/2007 11:19:33 PM
I saw an 08 Benz C300 on the dealer lot tonight. It looks realy nice, like a shiny piece of jewelry. Attention to detail is way above Infiniti.....and this is coming from a die hard Infiniti fan. It must have been a dealer promo vehicle because it was the only one on the lot and it didnt have a sticker on it.
7/24/2007 1:18:20 AM
^ yeah the new C-Class looks awesome, especially the Sport Sedan... not so much the Luxury Sedan.BUT, they are underpowered:C300: 3.0 lit V6, 228 hpC350: 3.5 lit V6, 268 hpActually, if you look at hp/lit, it is excellent, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) Japanese luxury manufacturers broke past those levels of power in the past couple of years. The Sport Sedan, which comes with an AMG body kit as standard, looks very sweet!
7/24/2007 4:46:12 AM
^ and it comes with rubber seat covers so it would be perfect for you
