I have two steel SCBA bottles, not SCUBA, that I need to get hydro tested and filled. This is for my powerbottle setup. Where can I get this done in Raleigh?

http://hazmat.dot.gov/sp_app/approvals/hydro/hydro_retesters.htmAccording to the PDF listing NC hydro facilities you can get it done at any of these places.Assuming that these SCBA bottles are high pressure, your best bet is probably either Pye-Barker or SimplexGrinnell.I've never used any of these places, but I hope this helps.Usually fire extinguisher places are going to be the cheapest, maybe in the range of $10-$20 per cylinder.

^ thanks for that. they are 2216psi and were made in 99, I bought them as surplus from the state in 2004 so they are out of date.

If they're 2216 I would definitely take them to the places that can handle industrial/high pressure. There are a line of steel SCUBA tanks that are rated for 2400psi (2640 with +) that are "LP" tanks.Personally I don't understand how something at 2640psi could possibly be considered "low pressure" makes any sense whatsoever...I believe the CGA definition of "high pressure" is "over 40psi".

most if not all local FD's use Simplex Grinnell

are they completely steel or are they steel tanks reinforced with fiberglass?

all steel. but I have 5 aluminum +fiber wrapped ones that are 15+ years old. I have read that dot might back off that service limit, but I get conflicting reports on the web.

They might be planning on increasing the lifespan of the 4500psi tanks, but I doubt they'll change the 2200psi ratings.
