this thread is to guage interest from anyone here that would be willing to commit to starting a local chapter of the downed bikers association (http://www.downedbikers.com). the dba is a group dedicated to providing support and assistance to victims of motorcycle accidents. organized rides, events, etc. are held to raise money for downed riders, charity, etc. support in the form of visitation to riders in local hospitals as well.having been through and still going through the trials of a wreck, and knowing how common bad accidents have become in this area due to congestion in recent years, i feel that such a group would be an invaluable support system. i would like to use my experiences to help other people going through the same thing. my sister and brother in law are active members in the ozarks chapter, and have been a part of doing some great things for people.i am willing to initiate and organize things, but 20 COMMITED people are needed to start a chapter. a vote is held, and 5 officials are appointed. a letter is submitted to the dba for approval. there is no requirement for what type of bike you ride. you don't even have to ride to be a member. more information, etc. about the association can be seen on the website i posted above. if you are interested in this, and serious about it, please respond here or pm me. feel free to crosspost this on other local boards, and put interested people in touch with me.

First off, I don't ride but I do have a website/possible contacts for you (sorry if this is common knowledge) http://www.lawtigers.com/You may already know, but these lawyers all ride, they are nationwide, and deal with primarily injured riders. They'd be a good source for riders in NC I suppose. Bikers sign up with some benefit card, and they get discounted health coverage, etc. if they go down on a bike. The only person I know who's wrecked is Clint Moser, a good mechanic at Crossroads Infiniti. He's cool as hell and would be fun to hang with. Good luck BBR.[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 5:35 PM. Reason : link]

forgot to mention also in case my post was a little confusing. you do not have to have wrecked a bike to be a member either. this is just an association dedicated to helping people and their family members that have been injured/killed.^^thanks, i'll look into that as some possible contacts.^okay... pm me your email address. i'm going to start an email list of all interested people.

haha, if you saw their commercials you'd remember them, they're probably on youtube. they're all attorneys who ride and only do downed biker accidents.

I'm in, we have a lot of rides back home with them, the local blue knights chapter sponsor/arrange/escort a lot of the benefit rides.

darwined bikers association.

^That was pretty crude, considering that a large majority of downed experienced bikers are/were at the mercy of an ignorant/unsuspecting/inattentive CAR-DRIVING motorist. Most of the rest are t-shirt/shorts-wearing squids on chromed-out sportbikes with drag swingarms.

There are close to 6 million major car accidents in the US every year, 2.9 million injuries..12% of registerd motor vehicles are motorcycles..002% of those accidents involve motorcyles.Seems to me like you are 60 times more likely to get injured driving a car than a motorcycle. Riders have a much higher awareness of what going on around them and are much less likely to get in an accident.

Listen, i'm just being honest the fun part of riding a bike is the danger of it. but when you get hurt.... duh... you know that if you get in what would normally be a fender bender... you could die. And most downed riders are from people exceeding their level of skill or the conditions level of traction... i.e. gravel on the road. Anyway you know when you're trusting your life to about 3 square inches of tire shit is going to happen don't cry when it does.[Edited on July 20, 2007 at 5:37 PM. Reason : .]

yeah, you're right. people like you that drive drunk, etc. aren't any problem.
7/20/2007 5:47:13 PM
Ok you're still confused.i DROVE drunk yes... you think i'll ever do it again ? being that i still can't drive cause of that shit does suckbut in the mean time a GOOD friend of mine died in a dwi related accident.so i think maybe that hit home a little harder than forcing me to move downtown cause i can't drive did.not to mention the fact i got pulled for something that had absolutely nothing to do with my drivingno speeding no swerving nothing so fuck off.btw.... was it you or primer who lost their license for a while?and if you think .08 is drunk you are a girl or a god damned idiot.... ohh wait... oops.]
7/20/2007 7:24:37 PM
okay, if all of you interested could pm me your email addresses. i'm going to start a list, but won't be doing anything "official" until i get probably at least 30 interested people. i figure that will hopefully get the required 20 that are actually commited.i wasn't positive about the the dues information when i posted this since it would be a new chapter, but it would be the same as the existing chapters. it's $50 for the first year and $25 for renewal each following year. that inlcudes a shirt, patch, stickers, etc. a lifetime membership is $250.

even so, your average rider puts 1-2k per year on a bike (more like 8-10k for me but thats beside the point) your average driver puts 15-20k on a car, 20/2= 10 times more mileage 60/10 = 6 times less likely to get in an accident.happy now? you're still wrong
7/27/2007 8:13:05 AM
Where the hell are you pulling those numbers from? And I used to call April 'tricky math'.
7/27/2007 8:18:12 AM
straight out of my ass, see you can take statistics from the dot website, apply some simple math, and manipulate them to whatever results you want to, politicians have been doing it for years
7/27/2007 8:22:54 AM
7/27/2007 5:17:11 PM
while i think you're probably right, you're basing your argument on stats from 10+ years ago...
