I just got a speeding ticket in Salisbury, I-85 (near a Charlotte). It was a 85 in a 65 limit.

I plan to get a lawyer... but I dont know whether I should get a local lawyer. Can I get a lawyer in Raleigh?

how much should I spend $$ totally (with lawyer fee and fine)? any experience??

and... this is my first ticket and I've never been in an accident or had anything else, then is it possible to make it 9 over without hiring a lawyer? Do you have any experience 85 -> 74?

20 over, I'd say get a lawyer in salisbury, not raleigh, as the Salisbury Lawyers know the Judges and the judges know the lawyers.

You could go in there and say it was your first offense, ask that the ticket be dropped to 9 over, plead guilty to 9 over and it shouldn't change your insurance. If they refuse then ask for a continuance and get a lawyer. If they say they will drop to 14 or 15 over just ask for a continuance and get a lawyer. Also may want to try and speak with the DA and have it reduced to 9 over without having to go to court.

I got 2 speeding tickets in Rowan Co. a month or so ago. Just wait on letters to come in the mail and call each lawyer. Ask them how much and what they can promise they can do with your case. It's gonna cost you a little money, but it's worth it in the long run.

show up on the date on the ticket, IF the DA wont reduce it to 9 over THEN get it continued so you can get a lawyer. most likely he will reduce it.

if you dont speed much you can just show up on the court date and get it reduced most likely and if that isnt offered as beatunc said then ask for a continuance to get a lawyer. If it is reduced to 9 over then it will not add any insurance points but it does add 2 pts to your license. after 3 is when insurance starts to go up. If you want no points at all you can get a prayer for judgement which will ignore that you got a ticket unless u get a second one and then it will come back as well as the next one you got.

First...Not all areas will reduce that to 9 over. I know when I got one in G-Vegas they told me that their policy is that they will reduce it as long as you're going 15 or less over the speed limit. 20 over would be out of question there. You can try calling and asking to speak to an assistant District Attorney to feel the situation out.

I would recommend finding out who the local hotshot lawyer is for traffic stuff. I got one in Warren County one time and just started striking up conversations with the locals (waitress, store owners, etc.) They all pointed me to the same lawyer.
