OK- Heres the setup... A bit vintage but I love it (minues the older technology) :


2 JBL J900 Towers, JBL FLix20 center & Satellites, Polk Audio PSW120 sub, and SONY STRDE925 Receiver.

As of right now I have cable box,xbox,and DVD plugged with standard a/v's all in to the receiver. And a single video out to the Polaroid 37"LCD (no high def box yet).

Problem is I now have everything wired and the surround sound doesn't seem super.... surroundy i guess- Just doesn;t seem to have the response i would expect it to.

I don't have any optical cables... however I noticed the "digital coaxial" jack on dvd and reciever.... It apears as a run of the mill a/v jack- Can i just use any regular cable to wire it.... if so should i unhook the standard analog a/v cables that are currently running from the dvd.

the tv,dvd,and receiver all have the "dolby digital" label and the receiver also has "digital DTS" tag on it... trying to optimize what I have without having to hit up radio shack right this second-

sorry for all the words- any help is appreciated

i also hate the fact that in s.s. mode all of the words come from the centerchannel- anyway to split it up?

yeah, just use a regular cable with RCA connectors on both ends

you might want to go get an rg11 coax cable w/ RCAs on it, might help with signal transfer... but for very short runs, it shouldn't make a difference - it's digital data going through it

ok- could i just leave the video out cable plugged into the dvd.... unplugg the 2 "audio cables" with it and plug one into the "coaxial" output...?
after that do i need to readjust any settings for it to work properly?

yeah, the digital cable will make a noticeable difference is your sound quality... at least it did for me

stuff that's not encoded in dolby , dts etc. won't have the surround effect. and even if it is, you won't get the true surround sound unless you use the digital coax or optical inputs on the reciever. sweet craigslist buy

yeah, unplug the regular analog audio going from dvd to receiver

just leave the video and the 1 coaxial audio cable plugged in

and as far as settings go, check your receiver's manual, there's probably an input on there that uses the coax input that you'll have to switch the video to

I found a digi. optical connector in my box of random shit.... sounds amazing-
