I saw there was another thread about a Lexus, but how much do ya'll think it would cost to get a door key made for a 99 Deville. I'm eyeing a no reserve on ebay.
7/14/2007 12:06:22 PM
50-75
7/14/2007 12:43:45 PM
called dealer 35 for ignition, 7 for door.
7/14/2007 4:36:29 PM
^^wtf?^yeah, door keys are going to be as cheap as any "normal" key. they don't have the VATS chip like the ignition key.
7/14/2007 4:57:50 PM
just hide your chipped key up in the dash and use the $7 copy
7/14/2007 5:11:19 PM
^^ eh, some dealers are huge dickheads about making VATS keys
7/14/2007 5:39:53 PM
^
7/14/2007 6:06:10 PM
you keep the expensive key brand new
7/14/2007 6:27:44 PM
okay, please explain to us all how that's going to work.
7/14/2007 6:37:58 PM
its hidden in the dash, not getting usedthe cheap key is getting used
7/14/2007 8:28:38 PM
google VATSalso, VATS can be disabled
7/14/2007 8:29:51 PM
is vats the one with the resistor on the key or the other shit?[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 8:30 PM. Reason : nvm, yea it is..having the key in the car isn't gonna do shit, this aint a ford]
7/14/2007 8:30:30 PM
^^^please to learn wtf you're talking about.^yep. passkey and passkey II have resistors in the key. passkey III incorporates the chip into the plastic fob and uses an exciter ring on the ignition switch.it's really all beside the point though, since he was asking about a DOOR key.[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 9:03 PM. Reason : .]
7/14/2007 8:59:37 PM
yea i had to wire a resistor into the wiring harness for the ignition in the vette cause the contacts to the resistor were so wore out it wouldnt work..
7/14/2007 9:04:26 PM
i thought they stopped with the stupid resistor shit in '98
7/14/2007 9:06:33 PM
^you thought wrong. deville didn't switch to passkey III until 2000. even at that, the chip can't be that far away from the ignition and work.^^yep, it's easy on passkey/passkey II stuff. multi meter to check the resistance of the key resistor, go pay a few cents for a resistor from radio shack, wire it in, profit! iirc, there were only like 10-15 different resistor values used.[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 9:18 PM. Reason : .]
7/14/2007 9:15:43 PM
fords work behind the drivers side dash
7/14/2007 9:19:06 PM
1.) this isn't a ford.2.) he wasn't even asking about the ignition key in the first place.nice try though.
7/14/2007 9:25:08 PM
i was responding to your comment about them still having to be close by, i know that in my experience they work a few feet out. so on keys with a chip it will reach behind the dash.and i know he was looking for door locks, my comment was a general suggestion about how to keep the expensive key from getting damaged so he could use the door key. but i thought they were done with that embedded resistor crap. (i mean there is only 15, whats even the point)
7/14/2007 10:40:51 PM
the point is you didn't have any business responding to the thread in the first place because you don't know what you're talking about. any way you look at it, your comments were useless for anything cadillac or gm in general. see, you're still doing it:
7/14/2007 11:04:28 PM
jesus christ go take another percocet
7/14/2007 11:12:21 PM
7/14/2007 11:30:40 PM
^^jesus christ don't bother posting if you don't know what you're talking about. is it really that hard? that's always been the disease of the garage for some reason.STILL doing it...
7/14/2007 11:43:20 PM
7/14/2007 11:47:39 PM
im not black if thats what you are reffering to
7/14/2007 11:51:55 PM
wrong. the door and ignition use two different keys. so how are you going to use the door key in the ignition again?
7/14/2007 11:52:41 PM
why would you try? i was saying use the cheap blank[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 11:59 PM. Reason : which i know is wrong, but not at all because it wont fit]
7/14/2007 11:59:26 PM
i have no idea why you would try. you're the one that said it.
7/15/2007 12:02:52 AM
well i dont know then
7/15/2007 12:06:58 AM
JON HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING DAT 190% ALCOHOL DRANK
7/15/2007 12:10:01 AM
WTF man, it's car keys not rocket science. Just take that shit to Ace Hardware or something.
7/15/2007 2:01:08 AM
matt if you get a caddy, you should change your name to Leroy
7/15/2007 4:27:07 PM
the hate is overwhelming
7/15/2007 5:45:21 PM
Step 1, get a copy of door key made/order a key bank if neededStep 2, if you NEED an ignition key, either do the resistor trick internally or if its rfid stash the current key in the steering column casing AFTER making multiple NO CHIP, NO resistor copies of the key. You can now take your generic ignition key, turn the ignition, it will see the resistor/rfid and start. Result? if you lose the no chip ignition key you are out a few bucks, not 30+

7/16/2007 12:43:32 PM
It didn't have a door key. Sketch I know. Would cost $7 when they used the key code.Fred if I bought that caddy I would have changed my name to Jase. Then I would tint it out.Actually I wanted to buy it, turn around and sell it and make a buck.
