Might be a stupid question, might not be possible... I dunno, but maybe someone knows how to make it happen

I have a list of about 4300 rows of data, each an individual person (membership list)... I want there to be a page break between the letters of last names...

I.E. The names are entered in the first cell as "John Doe"... I want the page to break at the end of the last names that start with D so I can print the list and separate the print out by letters of the last name.

Can this be done - or is there another way I'm just unaware of?

Thanks for the help

what version of excel?

you want "page break preview" under the view tab i think.... then just move the blue lines

wow, disregard my previous post.

some info is needed. do any of the name cells contain middle names?

it won't be automatic, but it won't be horrible

couldnt you just put the excel info in a database and sort by letter?

okay do this then:

select the whole column of names.
go to data > text to columns
select delimited
hit next
select space
hit next
hit finish
now go through and delete the double first names from the list so that there is a "first" and "last" column

then autofilter your sheet
press the down arrow next to the "last" column
hit "custom" from the dropdown
select "begins with"
enter "A" into the text box
press OK
print the resulting list
change "A" to "B" and repeat for each letter

if this is a static list then just sort by the "last" column and drag the page breaks to the letter breaks. if its a constantly updated list then do the above.

^excel can sort, no need for a database, however the problem comes in that the names aren't Last, First
