turns over but wont crank, can't hear the fuel pump when i turn the key to the on position, is the pump the most feasible problem if there are no fuses blown?

pretty likely.. the one on my tahoe is loud as shit so if you cant hear yours then that's a problem. might wanna have somebody else turn the key while you get your ear closer to the back of the truck to be sure tho

And crawl under there and smack the tank while that somebody else turns the key. Sometimes it'll get it running...but if so, you still need to have it replaced.

there is a schrader valve to check the fuel pressure on the rail on top of the intake, take the cap of, and push in the valve with a small screwdriver to let the pressure off, then turn the key on for 5 seconds, turn it back off and try it again, if nothing sprays out you probably have a bad pump.a new one will run you around $300, i reccomend swapping the whole unit, because everyone i have just changed the pump on, the level sending unit goes bad shortly after^ and like dan said, sometimes beating the tank with the key on will get it goingif you need help with it, let me know, last time i did mine it only took about 30 min before you condemn the pump though, i would take the inlet line off the filter (right by the tank on the frame rail) and see if you have pressure with the key on, mine has plugged completely up a few times[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 1:38 PM. hey keith, did you move the bed back or drop the tank? which is easier?
7/12/2007 2:56:33 PM
tank is a piece of cake to drop, just be real careful about the vent line in the front, you gotta drop it a little, then 1/4 turn and pop the assembly out, if you break off the fitting, its a $40 part fyi, it makes it a lot easier job if you pop out the driveshaft to make more roomreach up top disconnect the two plugs, take off the filler hose, take the front strap off, loosen the back, reach up and take out the vent tube assembly on the front center on top, then take off the front strap and bench press it out[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 3:12 PM. before you start getting into hardcore stuff check battery. sometimes it will turn over but not start with a bad battery. happened to me when I built my stroker and tried to start it for the first time.

keith did you go back w/ a delco unit or did you use a different brand?
7/12/2007 7:21:14 PM
i got one through napa, because i had a friend that could get it at cost at the time, but its hung in there for 108k miles since, i would probably recommend carquest for around hereand make sure you siphon some out of the bottom of the tank while its out, they almost always have some water in therecolter may be able to get you a good deal on one from advance[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 9:58 PM. The interesting thing is that the pumps you'd get at Carquest are made by Airtex...and you'd be amazed to find out that somewhere in there, it's the same supplier that sells to Autozone and Advance.I've wasted a lot of my time researching this crap.

fucking GM fuel pumps are junkmy ex girlfriend's dad had his go out like 3 times on his suburban/tahoe/whatever it was
7/13/2007 12:11:51 PM
i replaced mine around 120k miles because the level sending unit went bad and i might as well have replaced while i had it out, and the new one has been in here for 100k miles with no problems

the new model has a different wiring setup and plug, most likely to correct the problem. Anyway, its done and in and running good.
