I was basically given a compromised middle name because it was a rush decision by my parents over whether to use my moms maiden name or something else.

so they just took a letter out

Ive talked with them about it over the years and I want to put it like it was supposed to be

What do you have to do (besides google it) and how does it affect birth certificates, SSN, Bank accounts, Diploma, Drivers Licence, etc??

or do its at all, since it would just be adding one letter to my middle name

you have to pay fees for the court processing and stuff like that as well as going to all the proper record keeping to report your newly changed name. is all the trouble worth one letter?

my friend changed her middle name by going to the courthouse. she said it wasn't a hassle at all. She changed it when she got married so she changed her middle and last at the same time.

I just changed my last name (marriage) and all it took was waiting an hour at the soc sec office. waiting on the card so i can change everything else over..

It's probably not as much of a chore as when a woman changes her last name... it's not too much to just change it, but then you have to file change-of-name forms for everything official. Biggest thing will be that you may need to provide the official name change document along with your birth cert any time your birth cert on its own would be required.
