Will the 60GB laptop hard-drive fit in an external enclosure? If so, I'll bid $40 for all laptop drives and any USB cables you are willing to give up. Let me know if you have any oscilloscope probes

^ they make enclosures that take 12mm drives, but you have to confirm that yours will work first.
