i am thinking of getting one for my bike so i can ride it in the house. my bike is a gary fisher wahoo if that makes a difference. i don't know the first thing about trainers so any advice is welcome. specific brands to look for or to avoid would be great...and if you have one to sell me, even better! i don't ride hardcore, i just want to be able to ride when it's raining out.

#1, swap out the rear tire with a road slick. otherwise it will EAT your treads and fling little black rubber pieces all over the floor behind it.in my experience most trainers are about the same, in the 40-80 dollar range. there are quite a few different types of resistance, but i like the fan resistance ones the best. if you can drop the $$ for one with remote adjustment (so you can change the resistance without getting off the bike) even better.

i agree with ^ - i have a trainer for my road bike for the winter and even with the small amount of tread road tires have it made them into slicks quickly after a few uses when i first got it - most people at bike shops are very knowledgeable and i would recommend going in to talk to them
