if you are running windows 2000, you need to download SP4. i dont know what a service release is...but it sounds like another name for a service pack.

should be able to run Windows Update through your browser and it should find itgo to the 'Tools' menu in Internet Explorer and go to 'Windows Update'if you have IE 5.0 or earlier you'll have to install IE 6.0 to get Windows Update I believe...but that should fix a lot of issues

thanks for all the help, i dont know how this is going to play out, tech lady hates me b/c im the new kid that knows more then her and im only paid 9$ an hour for lab work. she warned me not to update b/c she claimes sr3 means "service release 3" which means its like windows 2000 version 3 that apparently they sold seperately and no longer sell anymore. And if i were to "mess nithin up" i would have to call a "someone" to come fix it....fucking hate ignorance

Never heard of anything from microsoft ever called a "service release." It's probably just a typo in the installer error prompt like everyone said. You're not using IBM software like rational software architect are you? there was a release of that called "v2003 SR3" but IBM's one of the only companies I know of that uses the term "service release."
