OK so I finally convinced the wife that boats are cool. Now I will endeavor into vehicles with no wheels! So it seems as 69's old boat kicked the bucket so I've been in talks to snag it. Its a good old 19ft Bayliner Capri, the old Force 125 has probably had it.Saturday I acquired a trailer from colter, sadly it just wont work for my needs, so today I literally yanked a decent unit from under a 19ft Glassport. Chained the boat to a tree and ta-daa I have a trailer. Needs a little work, nothing major, and I have to title it. Any insight into that process would be great.NEXT to acquire an outboard. Already have leads on two nice possibilities. Im going for quickness here, trying to get this boat back to town, fixed and back in the water ASAP. So Ill keep yall posted. New glassport trailer...forgot photobucket changed their shit...also i have already pulled the boards and stripped the carpet to replace it, need some glue for the tops i guess dont want staples scratching the boat...[Edited on July 9, 2007 at 8:40 PM. Reason : forgot]

i just redid our trailer this past weekend. rewired it, but new lights on it, replaced some bolts, and put new bunkers on it. As i'm sure you know theyre just 4x4"s (well yours arent i see). I just wrapped em in marine grade black carpet using some spray adhesive and i stapled the back side and ends. easy and looks good.my boat will touch water this summer...i've said that the past 3

^^ Man the lil bug looks clean WTF hahah
7/9/2007 9:00:26 PM
nice. you can get it titled as a home built easy enough. dmv inspector checks it out, you have to stamp/mig some numbers on it, title, profit.you'll want to adjust the runners/rollers to fit your hull the first time you set it on there too.
7/9/2007 9:03:18 PM
Scary. I'm glad I've taken my aquatic endeavors farrrrrr south of NC.
7/9/2007 9:08:37 PM
oh no the neighborhood old folks couldnt walk down the sidewalk tonight!!! im sure ill get a complaint about this shit too. and running an impact gun in the driveway.

^ I can think of a Ford truck that poses a similar problem ^^^ [Edited on July 9, 2007 at 9:12 PM. Reason : .]

7/9/2007 9:19:58 PM
well at least give my old trailer to someone who can use it. sorry it didn't work.
7/9/2007 10:24:25 PM
Lay down some pre-wax, wax and metal polish and you will never want to own a boat again.
7/10/2007 12:08:07 AM
I have worked on quite a few outboards before, let me know if you need a hand, hell I probably have an old manual laying around for yours somewhere.
7/10/2007 8:09:55 AM
got a pretty good deal on a rebuilt force 125 to replace the one on the bayliner! so now to refurbish the trailer and pickup the boat, swap the motor and YARRRRnew trailer tires wheels hubs drums bearings coupling master cylinder brake lines etc etc etc tonight. still have to redo the carpet on the boards though.
7/11/2007 4:57:53 PM
you should have bought a house with a back yard
7/11/2007 5:15:21 PM
what did you give for that 125?
7/11/2007 6:33:53 PM
^^ huh? I have a back yard. im a homeowner. you should step up and stop renting.^ pm m3
7/12/2007 12:32:50 AM
replacing brakes on that trailer for a 19ft boat is hardly worth it, you dont need them.
7/12/2007 1:17:03 PM
^ he's gonna be towing it behind a rover, he's gonna need every damn bit of brakes he can get, my 21 footer gets squirrely with no brakes behind my truck and its only slightly heavier
7/12/2007 1:40:39 PM
hell be fine, i tow my Challenger 215 with my tacoma, it aint the best stopping thing in the world but a damn 19' bayliner should be cake with about anything.
7/12/2007 4:55:31 PM
7/12/2007 5:02:26 PM
^yeah, really. i can't believe some of this garbage i see pulling boats when i go to the lake. and people are always like "it pulls it great. it has lots of power.".
7/12/2007 5:37:36 PM
State Width Height Max Total Length Max Trailer Length Trailer Braking System RequirementsNC 96" 13' 6" 60' 35' Required over 4000 lbs. GVWYour boat weight is 2,900lbs, add a full tank of fuel and trailer weight, and you are pulling an illegal rig in NC.[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 5:57 PM. Reason : a challenger isnt anything close to the weight a damn 86 bayliner anyway dumbass]
7/12/2007 5:55:22 PM
yeah, no trailer brakes would not be a good idea. he's going to be borderline in the suspension/handling department too, especially with the lift/33's but it should be manageable. a lot of people are lulled into a false sense of security towing stuff out of their league. it's not the normal driving, it's that one emergency stop/swerve that gets you.
7/12/2007 7:06:02 PM
it's the STOP that gets you like BBR said. the biggest/baddest engine will not stop your truck and trailer. ask zxappeal about trailer brakes, hills, and my jeep on a trailer. we almost died.
7/12/2007 7:58:48 PM
me and C had some crazy adventres in VA towing his camper FULL of parts from a '73 Rover... including a full turnaround in a FULL apartment complex lot in total downpour conditions... ill be happy to pull my boaty boat with brakezzzand i plan on towing it with the wifes rover long distance, bigger better engine, electronic trans, stock height, BMW brakes, functional ABS, etc.
7/13/2007 12:35:20 AM
if the boat hes getting is heavier than mine then he might as well forget the whole thing bc theres no way in hell hes gonna pull it on that single axle trailer anyways.trailer brakes are way too much trouble to maintain, i know this boat will prolly never see saltwater but i know more people than not that end up disconnecting the brakes on the trailer. saltwater kills em (mine is used in saltwater several times a month). ive pulled this boat with my truck ( a 4cyl btw for all you folks that are saying big motors dont help you stop, which is obvious) 70 miles to the beach for over a year and have had to stop suddenly on several occasions. never even come close to jack knifing the trailer. he doesnt need trailer brakes on anything thats bein pulled on a single axle trailer.[Edited on July 13, 2007 at 8:21 AM. 7/13/2007 8:08:37 AM
what the fuck do you care anyway? if he wants to use his brakes, then why not? It's his ass, and I guess he likes to keep it out of harms way
7/13/2007 11:47:11 AM
don't know about what weight your boat is or what the GVW is on the trailer, but my 19' I/O is sitting on a single axle trailer with no brakes that is rated for 3500 lbs. it tows great, and never really had a problem stopping it with either trucks I've towed it with. You just have to drive a bit more defensive I guess. Now any bigger and i'll have a tandem axle trailer with brakes. It is surprising to me that NC has one of the higher weight limits for when a trailer needs brakes or not.
7/13/2007 12:42:17 PM
the point here is that i snagged a decent brake equipped trailer on the cheap, then refurbed it on the cheap. yes i could have saved 100 or 150 bucks in the process and scrapped the brake system.... ??? no i dont need the brakes, but for what i have in them why not.
7/13/2007 12:50:34 PM
no i agree that brakes are better than no brakes, it just surprises me that NC has one of the highest weight limits on trailers that don't require brakes. I'd definitely say they're worth it, no tot mention the wear and tear they do save on the vehicle's braking system. So do you need em? prolly not. Is it worth a couple hundred bucks.... prolly so.... any pics of the boat yet?
7/13/2007 2:59:00 PM
should be picking it up tomorrow. you should see the trailer though, got a fresh coat of paint on it now, went ahead and replaced all the lights and wiring, plate bracket, all that shit.
7/13/2007 3:49:45 PM
LED's? i wish I had demanded them on mine as I went through bulbs like mad for the first little bit, now that I unplug my lights before putting the trailer in the water the problem isn't as bad.i debate on switching over or just waiting to buy a new boat!
7/13/2007 3:52:56 PM
im on a budget, and LEDs arent in that budget at the moment. but maybe later on...
7/13/2007 8:19:18 PM

7/14/2007 8:23:37 PM

7/14/2007 10:33:40 PM

7/14/2007 11:34:28 PM
An 86 Bayliner? Wow man, you're high class now!
7/15/2007 1:55:20 AM
87
7/15/2007 8:30:32 AM
We are thinking of adding another set of disc brakes to our rig. We have disc's on one axle but another set would be nice because our trailer is heavy. The only problem is that saltwater is not brake friendly.
7/15/2007 11:10:52 AM
agrisupply FTW
7/15/2007 12:46:42 PM
that or northern had a good selection too. not sure on the price difference, etc.
