Are DSL services comparable? I'm just looking for something cheaper than the $50/mo. since I'm planning to switch to satellite.

this thread gets made about once a month here. The general consensus is that you can't beat TW's price for the speed. You can save some money by getting RR Lite or DSL, but it's not gonna be nearly as fast. Bottom line - depends on your definition of the word "comparable".

I guess since all I do is browse the internet, I just need something that can handle that, not a connection meant for heavy downloading. I'll look into RR Lite.

Honestly, RR Lite 768 isn't that bad. I used it at my dad's house this past Wednesday and didn't notice a difference at all. I finally noticed it when I went to download a PDF and a saw the D/L speed cap out at around 90 KB/s. I asked my dad wtf is this, and he told me he switched to RR Lite 768. If all you do is surf the internet, you can't beat it for 19.99 a month.[Edited on July 8, 2007 at 1:27 PM. Reason : :]

Have yall really have a problem with TW shaping packets. I download torrents constantly and havn't really noticed. Granted I only have a 5 Mbit connection but on good torrents I download at close to 500kb/s usually more.

So the timewarner bill came... Paid last months bill and it shows as drafting from my checking successfully. It was 109 and some change. This bill now shows an unpaid balance from last month of 289 and a current bill of 189 for this month. It also shows a pay-per-view purchase that was never made. If it was porn I might suspect the roomate, but it was "Goldfish Memory." Somehow phone, roadrunner, digital cable +dvr, and one pay-per-view movie we didn't watch comes to 189.95.It looks like we're getting charged for 3 DVRs, 3 cable boxes, 2 remotes, and a bunch of other impossible things. Spent about an hour talking to various TWC people trying to convince them that they were charging us far too much and that I had the bank records to prove the bills were payed the last month. Additionally, I have their last bill which proves the last balance due was NOT 289+ change. Currently, we've got to call them back during buisness hours to talk to a supervisor. Basically they want us to waste a lunch hour arguing with someone salaried instead of hourly-payed. Looks like that 99.95 perpetual ATT deal for satellite, DSL, and phoe is fairly sweet by comparison.

isn't earthlink done through TWC, like you get a TWC cable modem and everything?
7/13/2007 7:24:22 AM
^ Yes it is. I have it.
