This has happened a couple times.I'll download and install firefox, then when I try and run it the browser window will come up (cool), that google toolbar window comes up where i can select my options (cool), then firefox locks up the CPU and the memory usage grows and grows until i kill it(not cool...last time i killed the process at 500mb).Any ideas on why firefox doesn't like my PC?

What extensions do you have installed? Try disabling them all then enable one by one until you find the culprit.

firefox always uses a shitload of memory on my pc

^^ firefox is superior. its just not mozilla's fault if you stick a bunch of unverified extensions from every skript kiddie who comes along.no, wait. i know. lets lock down firefox so that you only get the default presets, that way traditional mac and windows users wont hang themselves.[Edited on June 26, 2007 at 7:54 PM. I read that part of your post, but you said nothing directly about extensions so I mentioned them.Download and run Process Explorer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx to confirm that Firefox is the problem.Download and run Process Manager http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx to find out what Firefox is doing.

^ i'll do that if it continues to be a problem. i just tried to start it using safe-mode from the start menu and it actually started. it then asked me if i wanted to revert settings back to normal which i did, and now it seems to work fine in normal mode.doesn't make any sense tho, because I was never even able to open firefox once after downloading/installing...so i sure as hell didn't mess up any options or anything, i couldn't even get to the settings.
