Okay, forgive the ignorance, but I've never bought plane tickets before. I'm going to fly into London on Sept. 5 and return Dcember 20. I have some play with the dates, so when are the cheapest times during the week to fly? Also, any tips of really cheap sites to buy from? I don't have to leave from Raleigh, but somewhere in NC.

most online sites have relatively similar rates nowadays, so pick one or two and compare. best hting you can do is look at your different options and choose which works with your schedule. it isnt rocket science really so you'll be fine.

I was able to find tickets that are

KIX-> SEA
SEA-> RDU
RDU-> KIX

for $1100. Good deal.

I saw a commercial for some online ticket vendor that advertised a price calendar so that you could get the cheapest tickets during a certain period of time.

Priceline maybe?

did your search for you:

854 round trip after taxes and fees is the cheapest (orbitz)
908 round trip for a lot of airlines with various times after taxes and fees (various other cites)



jfyi taxes are around 305 for this trip on all carriers

not sure about international flights, but the last few times i've flow domestically, the website of the airline had the cheapest flights. for example, http://www.nwa.com had cheaper prices for the same flight as orbitz or whatever.

also, i've had issues using orbitz before in reserving hotels... get to the hotel and they have no rooms left. i've never used them in actually purchasing plane tickets though, but be careful and double check everything and read all the fine print if you do use one of the discount websites.

Iceland Air usually has really cheap tickets for transatlantic flights. I flew them when I went home to the US over the christmas holiday. The catch is that they only fly out of Baltimore/Washington, NY, and Boston on the east coast.

The cheapest times to fly during the week are typically mid week. I usually try to schedule trips leaving on a Wednesday or Thursday and coming back on a Tuesday (if possible).

Thanks for the info, guys! I bought a round trip ticket for $741 with insurance direct from RDU to GAT (London). I've heard of Ryanair...good to know they are reliable...also, anyone know some good cheap bus fare sites...I need to figure out how to get to Swansea, Wales from London on 9/6.
