this is pretty cool, not sure if it's in the windows version or not, and i imagine you can probably do the same thing with other browsers with some tweaking.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/12/safari-on-windows-a-security-risk/

Quote :
"Appleā€™s newly released Safari Browser for Windows is coming under fire for all the wrong reasons today with separate reports indicating that the browser presents a security risk to Windows users.

Thor Larholm has published a 0day exploit that causes Safari to shut down when visiting a site with malicious code. (http://larholm.com/2007/06/12/safari-for-windows-0day-exploit-in-2-hours/)

David Maynor at Errata Security claims to have found 6 bugs, 4 Denial of Service and 2 remote code execution bugs. (http://erratasec.blogspot.com/2007/06/niiiice.html)

The browser has met with mixed reviews; the ability to quickly render sites being countered by visually foreign (to Windows users) font rendering and a failure to support the Vista Aero interface"

of course any new browser for a new OS is bound to have exploits.

i think this DEFINITELY got rushed out the door for yesterday, it's not really not even beta ready

Splosky has a good, well informed and reasoned (as usual) primer on font rendering in Windows and Mac, which can now be compared directly using Safari on Windows

Maynor is full of shit. I'm not worried about anything he supposedly "breaks". He doesn't say how he does it, nor will he report it to the developers, so he's nothing more than a sack of shit that holds back everything the developer community is trying to accomplish.

Larholm, on the other hand, is on the opposite side of the spectrum - "Hay guyz, here's how you hack anyone that's using Windows Safari!!!!1". Tell the developers, not the world, dumbass.

I think the idea of Windows Safari is cool. I'm about to install it for myself, just for kicks.

[Edited on June 12, 2007 at 11:24 PM. Reason : Installed Safari and holy shit, this thing is fast. Can't wait for the final release!]

a not so glowing review (but well reasoned, and not flame bait) from Ars

^ pretty convincing reasons why i should not bother trying it.

if i had to waste time on prereleases, i'd rather check out FF 3.0a than safari

^I don't see why it wouldn't work on Wine. It's worth trying I guess.

From the bit I've used it in the past day or so, it is a tad buggy, and chock full of annoyances, but overall, it's very fast and I think it holds potential.
