I lurk around these forums most of the time. However, I will be living at UWoods this fall and from what I read it has a really bad rep. I just wanted to get some of your opinions on it. I know its loud and the walls are paper thin but that is expected of almost any cheap college apartment. The reason I picked it was because of the price and the fact that the rooms were nice and it seemed to be in a descent neighborhood. The thing I am worried about is safety. I hear a lot about break-ins. Do I need to worry about my car or apartment getting broken into? I don't mind noise as long as i'm not constantly worrying about getting mugged.Any info would be appreciated.

So you've already signed the lease to live there and now you want to know should you worry about it? Kind of a moot point now. I would worry more about your logic.

which side is the new side? University woods rd or pardue woods place?
6/11/2007 10:23:42 PM
I live here and sure have never sen a "new side." If you park in the middle of the lot under a light, take out anything that looks remotely valuable, and lock your doors, you ought to be fine. It's mainly the cars parked right next to the bushes that connect to the ethnically diverse housing that are broken into.

I liked my roommates while I lived there but it was very loud all the time. Even during exam week we had some rednecks setting off fireworks at 4am.also had misc problems with landlord but that's pretty much everywhere in the area i believe (preiss and private landlords).

Bad Things About University Woods:1. VERY LITTLE VISITOR PARKING!! You can't find a spot past 8pm most night. They also prey on students with the towing like its nobodies business.2. You live around the drunk driving headquarters of Raleigh "Trailwood Road".3. You have no back deck.4. The property management company sucks. The preiss company is a bunch of slum lords in my opinion.i'll add to this list as I remember more negatives
6/12/2007 9:31:06 AM
care to be more specific about preiss?
6/12/2007 10:35:15 AM
Preiss is hit or miss imo. They love to try to suck as much out of your security deposit as possible. They take a while to get stuff done, but if you bug them enough it gets done.Just a pain to deal with, but very few other options.

they use to manage my apartment complex at university glennall the trees and shrubs were overgrown, light bulbs were out all over the property, no new pine straw had been put out, lights had been ripped out of the wall, paint had been spilled all over the parking lot, etcand they just sat there collecting $130 homeowners dues from my parents every monthneedless to say we changed property management companies within the first year of us being there

Oh whoops. I'm in Uni. Oaks, not Woods.

The motto of apt living life - "you get what you pay for" self explanatoryYou said you chose it because it was cheap.....well don't expect much (safety, quality, amenities, upkeep, guest parking, etc.) and you'll love it there!
6/12/2007 7:37:32 PM
just buy a gun, you'll be fine

i lived there for the last 2.5 years or so until i moved down here to Greenville, SC last week. Never once did it feel any less safe than any of the other apartments i ever visisted around NC State. Now some of the other preiss company locations....they are a different story.only complaint i ever had was their installation of a crappy new door handle when our original one became dysfunctional. They promptly fixed our AC unit and washer and dryer units when they needed to be, and even came back to shampoo the carpet where they saw the AC had leaked while they were fixing it. Grass, shrubbery, trees were cut more than once a week and the sidings and sidewalks were pressure washed more than once while i lived there.neither me or any of my roommates ever had security issues while we were living there. Now of course other people may have different stories but thats mine[Edited on June 12, 2007 at 10:48 PM. Reason : ]
