that case in FL where the 17 year old kid was sentenced 10 years for getting a blow job from a 15 year old girl...the thing that gets me, is that even though the sentence has been thrown out, the kid has to STAY IN JAIL while that decision is being appealed...http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/11/teen.sex.case.ap/index.html

Ok, the people appealing this should be shot in the leg or something. Are there really people who think he should have to serve 10 yrs for a blowjob?
6/11/2007 12:49:39 PM
Yes, the girl's parents.FYI this kid should sue the fuck out of those parents and also sue the state.cruel and unusual anyone?[Edited on June 11, 2007 at 12:55 PM. Reason : ]

^agreed cruel and unusual, but it wont work because of the way the law was written the DA was following the law...i don't think the sentence should have been reduced to anything, i think it should have been entirely thrown out - it was consensual. Georgia needs to change its underage laws to what NC has - which I think are 16+ consensual is OK. If under 16, the age difference for consensual must be within 4 years. Although 12 and 16 is a huge difference, 15 and 17 isn't.
6/11/2007 1:09:51 PM
i'm glad it was overturned, i feel bad that kid lost 2 years of his life and his reputationfucking bible thumpers
6/11/2007 1:10:58 PM
I mean, 15 and 17, they could have been in the same class at that age.

Its ridiculous this kid did any jail time. Community service? fine, but JAIL time, come on. It was consentual, thats makes a big difference.

Red herrings for the win!It doesn't matter if he raped and ate small puppies, the fact that he received consentual oral sex from a girl two years younger than him does not justify a TEN YEAR jail sentence.

6/11/2007 3:00:33 PM
so what exactly is your point, and how is it relevant to this thread?
6/11/2007 3:33:09 PM
He's saying that the media is making him out to be a saint which he "clearly isn't." The point he is missing is that his prior history has no bearing on the case.
6/11/2007 3:39:14 PM
Eventhough the kid got screwed over, he is not the sympathetic figuere the media attempted to make him. I guess thats not too relevant, but it really pisses me off that this guy gets so much more media attention than the large number of individuals that get released from prison sometimes decades after being wrongly convicted of murder. This just goes to show you how people in this country (myself included) seem to worship athletes. Had this kid not been a star football player at the high school level, the media would have never jumped all over this story.

nothe reason he is a household name is because he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for engaging in a consensual blow job. that's it. seriously. its because of the blow job. not because he played footballyes, it is true because he played football he received attention from media outlets a non-sports player wouldn't have. but, so what? that's good. the more people who hear about it, the better, because the whole ordeal is so outrageous. Had he not played football he would not have been featured on the long list of shows I just mentioned. Had, he not been featured on those shows, I would have no idea who this kid is. Playing football was at least a contributing factor to some people knowing who Genarlow Wilson is, even if you are not willing to recognize it yourself.
6/11/2007 4:26:05 PM
okay, guess you didn't read my post. but, whatever
6/11/2007 4:26:58 PM
Are you saying he would have been featured on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumble, Mark Cuban's (Dallas Mavericks Owner) Blog, Sportscenter, Dan Patrick's Radio show, and ESPN's outside the lines if he had not played football?
6/11/2007 4:34:51 PM
no, i never said anything like that. if you would read my post, you'd notice i said this:
6/11/2007 4:37:52 PM
you're right about those venues, but this did get plenty of press in non-sports media. I read about it in the NY times via Digg several months ago.
6/11/2007 4:38:02 PM
6/11/2007 4:58:47 PM
there is a big difference ina story being big because it's a football playeranda story being big that involves a football player
6/11/2007 5:01:00 PM
I didn't even know the kid played football. I knew he was an honor student though...
6/11/2007 5:11:07 PM
at least it wasn't lacrosse
6/11/2007 5:32:34 PM
he is not going to be released until the appeal is decided(cnn) He should accept the deal, no record, not registering as a sex offender, he probably could be out in no time....does he really want to stay in prison until the appeal is heard?
6/11/2007 5:48:52 PM
i mean if a damn judge ordered him out of jail he should be released from jail.

in my tangential world it does.
6/12/2007 4:55:22 AM
If this guy signed up to play UNC basketball and unsportsmanly scored just as the game was ending after we were already beat in the ACC finals... you all would be calling for MORE jail time.
6/12/2007 12:22:27 PM
No, we'd be calling for a lynching. But that's beside the point.
