leaving the Gulf coast (Pensacola, FL) and headed to Whidbey Island, WA (north of Seattle, south of Vancouver) in a few days.

I think joe_schomoe is up there somewhere. I used to be in Seattle proper but I'm back in NC now.
6/11/2007 8:49:48 PM

6/11/2007 11:48:21 PM
howd you people know I live in Seattle???
6/12/2007 4:20:29 AM
You've mentioned it numerous times, and I think when I lived there we PMed back and forth about it a couple times.
6/12/2007 7:11:52 AM
^ only about a 100.oh, was that you? damn, i meant to catch up w/ ya, but we just had a kid and everything was
6/12/2007 11:20:28 AM
Yeah no big deal, we ended up moving back to NC after being there for about a year. My wife wasn't too keen on the lack of sunshine, plus other reasons like family and stuff. I miss living there though...
6/12/2007 6:57:12 PM
lack of sunshine?what? its plenty sunny between June and September.besides, i never knew how many different shades of grey there were til i moved here
6/12/2007 8:08:42 PM

6/21/2007 7:04:32 PM
Hey Duke, I go up to Portland and Seattle on business once every 2 months.. trying to get out to Whistler sometime this winter but none of the folks I ski with here in NorCal seems to want to go anywhere but Tahoe...
6/21/2007 7:25:11 PM
Yeah I live in Bremerton, just a ferry ride from Seattle.
6/23/2007 10:45:09 PM
^^ sweet...i'm down for Whistler this winter. ^ no shit...i was headed to Bremerton from Seattle today in order to buy a truck, but the wait for the ferry was 2 hours. We decided to skip it and go back down there tomorrow morning.finally made it down to Seattle last night...went to Tini Bigs and Amber.
7/21/2007 6:39:41 PM
I used to work like 4 blocks from Tini Bigs. Lower Queen Anne is a cool part of town. If you ever get the chance, go see a band play at the Blue Moon on 45th St in the U District (literally right off I-5). I believe it's the oldest bar in the city and as my friend put it, "every person in there is the most interesting person you've ever seen".

went to this restaurant and brewery called the Ram yesterdaythey make a hefeweizen that is absolutely outstanding. also make a beer with a little bit of bourbon in it that's really good (and 11%).we hit the gym, went for a run around Green Lake, then ate at the Ram (beers, pretzels in some cheese sauce as appetizer, then I had a pulled pork sandwich). roommates went to jamba juice afterwards, but i'd had enough.on the way home, stopped at Tulalip Casino...I made $3.25, and my roommates made about $200 and $300 apiece.this isn't my favorite place i've ever been, but it's a helluva lot better than i expected. can't wait for ski season.[Edited on August 5, 2007 at 7:35 PM. Reason : ^ Tini Biggs was really good...just expensive. thanks for the other suggestions.]

has anyone skiied both Mount Baker and Stevens' Pass? wondering which is better (or at least a comparison of the two)
8/6/2007 2:35:32 AM
Stevens Pass is better. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends though.
9/7/2007 4:45:44 AM
Def Stevens Pass. The drive up there is very cool too.If you like camping, go out to Lake Wenatchee on the other side of Stevens Pass. It's an incredible glacial lake sitting in the middle of the mountains. It's almost totally removed from civilization too. There is a little corner store a few miles away from the camp site but other than that you are out in the wilderness. There are other even more remote camping sites (hike in or canoe in) out on the Olympic Peninsula but we never got a chance to go to those. Also next time you are in town, go to Gordito's in Greenwood. Awesome burritos and cheap too.

anyone going to the Red Bull Soap Box Race in Seattle today?http://www.redbullsoapboxusa.com/Seattle-2007/event-day.aspx
9/29/2007 12:49:01 PM
hah. i went. it was in my neighborhood (Fremont)it was amusing.here was my favorite. The Rollin' Troll--http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/333726_soapbox29.htmlmy only beef is that calling it a "race" was misleading. It really was Soap Box "trials". they only ran one at a time. :-/[Edited on September 29, 2007 at 11:15 PM. Reason : ]
9/29/2007 11:07:46 PM
yeah, i was right down by the intersection of Fremont and 39th.then we went and ate/drank at the Pyramid, then went to the Mariners' game, then to the Ram (the one by the highway, not by the university).[Edited on September 30, 2007 at 2:37 PM. Reason : asdfasd]

3/1/2008 9:56:44 PM
While you're up there on Whidbey Island, you should try and take a tour of the Boeing plant in Everett sometime (if you haven't done so already). They build the 747, 767, 777, and the 787 at that factory. Not as sexy as the birds you fly, but it's still worth taking a look for any aviation enthusiast.
