I'm thinkin bout buyin a new cool air intake for my 06 scion Tc. its a K&N and says it will add 6.8 HRS PWR at 5500 RPM. Will I actually notice a difference in performance, gas mileage or sound?

i think it really depends on the car

some are designed with really restrictive intake systems for NVA rating purposes

cold air intakes arent worth the hassel in the first place. jsut the fact you have to avoid deep puddles was enough to decide on not getting one. I would say just get a short ram especially for the price your going to spend but you wont really notice a difference either way except sound. Get a decent exhaust and just change the filter. Youll gain the same performance and itll actually sound better where its supposed to (as in not up front but coming out the back). shit just to give you an example i bought my civic with an intake and exhaust on it ( both pretty shitty) and i cant hear the exhaust over the intake. kinda sucks.

^lol, Tc isn't a honda. I have to agree with people on here and say that sell the Tc, and get a better car.

i know its not a honda. just saying youll get the cool roaring noise like the hondas, sounds like the engine is working real hard.
sell the tc if it is in good shape because they are going for more used ,than new ones

if you're dumb enough to drive through a foot of standing water, you deserve to have your engine blown up.

tC is a very good car

Apexi power intake filter + random intake tubing = good results

it outperforms a range of popular filters for both filtration and performance according to some enthusiast's cross-study I read online

you'll be happy with a new intake, go for it. every little thing helps.

I think the seat of the pants dyno would not be able to register such a power gain with the intake only, unless there's some fat power gain in the lower rpms.

so for little 4 cyl cars like civics, what makes the ricer cars sound like a weed-eater? Is it a shitty exhaust or is that what an intake like a short ram would sound like?

looking on internet vids i've heard some that sound like weed eaters and some that actually roar deep, in the same type of cars

exhaust

any free-flowing nonturbo 4cyl will sound like a weed-eater. a resonator/premuffler sets the nice tones

so I have a early 90s civic, and by no means am a ricer, (nearly everything is stock besides wheels) nor do I want to be one. So with a stock exhaust, would a short ram intake make my engine sound deeper and have a more powerful sound or would it sound weed-eatery. I don't want to be super loud and command everyone's attention like some ricer fag, nor do I want to put the money and time into some exhaust system, but I wouldn't mind some small performance/mpg gains and a deeper better sounding engine. Anybody have any experience with how this would make it sound?

don't waste money on doing anything to any scion. they're fine for what they are, but if you want something faster, sell it and get something faster.

yeah, a supercharger/turbocharger to install on a different car.

don't fuck around and waste your time and money trying to modify a Scion or a Civic. they're both great for what they're designed for, but just leave it at that.
