because if you install XP on some other system and then yank the hard drive out, it'll be set up for that other system (drivers for a different video card, optical drives, etc).

it would probably work, at least somewhat, shoved into a different computer, but I doubt it would work well.

you'd be much better off buying the new hard drive, formatting it and installing XP clean yourself (or having someone else install it in the machine you want it to be on)
