autozone and advance will read your OBDII codes for free; why do you need your own scanner?

why do you need one to send info to your laptop?i just bought this for my truck. i mounted a bracket and used velcro to secure it to the bracket. this way i can take it out easily if i need to scan a different vehicle. http://www.scangauge.com/

an obdii → usb would be good if you were installing a carputerat that point, youd need software to take advantage of it

if all u want is a scanner and nothing else search around online. I got one and the software was free they only required you to buy the adapter for laptop-car. It was really cheap too, however I cant remember the name or website for it
