http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/05/08/healthscience/snfat.phpSome people might say "duh" upon reading that, but this is the first time it has been spelled out by scientists.
5/25/2007 6:36:37 PM
wow, that's a pretty interesting study.
5/25/2007 6:42:40 PM
This is why I continue to say that we should harbor all fat people into camps, and farm them for parts--hair, meat, bones, fat, skin (so much skin) and cleanse our gene pool.

5/25/2007 6:49:41 PM
I wonder if anyone used medicines like synthroid
5/25/2007 6:54:09 PM
To be honest, I don't take that much faith in article. Diets are always going to be prone to failure and people will gain once they get off. I mean when people say "I'm going on a diet" it implies that they'll quit at some point in time. However, if someone makes a lifestyle change, starts working out 3-4 times a week and eating healthy, I see no reason why the weight won't stay off.
5/25/2007 6:58:48 PM
seriously, the put them on a 600 calorie a day diet and then don't expect them to gain weight back after?
5/25/2007 7:13:31 PM
^ I thought the same thing.
5/25/2007 7:15:32 PM
Yeah, 600 calories a day is a starvation diet for most people and I cannot imagine that anyone would be able to maintain that level of calorie restriction. I think that anyone, not just overweight people, would gorge on food after being released from that situation.
5/25/2007 7:21:54 PM
Yeah, but they had a month of maintenance leve caloric intake, i.e. eating what a normal person would eat.Hopefully these disgusting fat fucks will stop breeding and it'll lower insurance and medical costs.

Speaking as a person who has been fat my whole life but having lost a lot of weight in the past year--I've gained some, but nowhere near all of it back--I can say that the article, for me at least, seems to be very accurate. It really is more difficult than most people would imagine, and it's one of those things where, if you haven't experienced it in your life, you really won't understand it.
5/25/2007 8:10:33 PM
if fat people really want to lose weight, doctors should give them monoi was fat from second grade to my peak senior year of hs at 225...i'm now currently like 170
5/25/2007 8:12:43 PM
interesting read.I guess do your kids a favor and marry an attractive thin person
5/25/2007 8:16:32 PM
I read it.

^I've read that cells have "memories."Do our genes change when we get fat? I thought it was our cells?Maybe I did miss something.[Edited on May 25, 2007 at 8:55 PM. Reason : "Looks like somebody" is trite.]
5/25/2007 8:52:43 PM
no, I think that person understood it just fine - the article shows that genetics are a large (largest? no pun intended) contributor to obesity, but it is possible to train people to overcome that. Some people are naturally going to be a size 2, other people are going to have to really work at it but have the genetic ability to stay a 10. For those people who would have to work for a 10 if their parents enabled them to be a 70-lb 3-year-old then they're probably not going to be able to control themselves later. Not sayin it's impossible, just unlikely, because those habits are ingrained. Parents need to teach their kids good eating habits, including when it is and is not OK to have junk food. (Example: OK to have a cookie after dinner ... all of it, including veggies. Not OK to eat a box of cookies for a snack.) Depriving people of food is ALWAYS going to fail as a diet.
5/25/2007 8:59:22 PM
did you people even read the entire article?

Technology will eventually solve the problem for us, though I'm sure the solution won't be cheap.

it's ok fatty

i dont get this cell memory thingsounds like something fat people use as an excuse honestly
5/25/2007 9:49:56 PM
^My understanding is that it's a new, unsure thing, and I've never heard a fat person talk about cell memory. I personally don't talk about it or genetic predisposition when examining myself. Cause I'm also predisposed to build muscle...kinda silly of me to lay around on the couch, bitching about how I'm built to be fat when three months in the gym could have me stronger than three, four average women combined.[Edited on May 25, 2007 at 10:03 PM. when a fat person looses a lot of weight, it is easily gained back because these cells are used to being fat. The study showed that what happens when they are put on the diets is the cells shrink, but then they can quickly grow back if they person goes back to eating a lot. Look at the part of the study where they had normal weight people gain weight and then loose it. No problem for them.
5/25/2007 10:12:53 PM
I don't know. After going through the experiences I have lately I find it hard to be sympathetic with the heavyweights. Except, of course, the ones that medically cannot help it.If you really want something bad enough you can have it.
5/25/2007 10:58:22 PM
^ i do believe though that we all have a "natural" bodyweight that our bodies will try to hover around
5/25/2007 11:09:31 PM

then we could do it with black people!

i fluctuate from 180-200... dont know why, i never notice until im actually on a weight scale and its like oh wow, i just gained 15 pounds... and when I do gain the weight i barely noticeim not fat, at all, but some people may think 200 is a lot for a person who is 5'9-5'10i just have a lot of core muscles
5/26/2007 12:09:56 AM
i dropped from 165 to 140ish a few years ago.i just exercised every day and didnt eat alot of shit.now i have alittle beer pudge and it wont go awayha
5/26/2007 12:23:50 AM
yeah, i think we should totally get all the little Asians and stick them in camps. they're fucking weird. what with all their Hentai, Bukkake, kitten-stomping, Pokemon, Bubble Tea, Hi Hi Puffy ami Yumi... they're infecting our culture with their weird shit.round 'em up, I say, round 'em up.

^^FTW....def....if you are 5'10" and weigh 200 lbs you have a little more than "core muscles" your core muscles will have muscles at that point. Most HUGE running backs are 5'10"-6' and weight 200 lbs. if you were that size and not fat you would have more than core muscles[Edited on May 26, 2007 at 12:40 AM. Reason : ...]

Nobody's asking for sympathy from you. (I take my fat ass life over your trashy military bastard child with a crazy bitch thing you pretend works...) NO SYMPATHY FOR YOU!!! But if you choose to pretend like genetics doesn't affect weight, then you choose to be ignorant. And I don't think you're ignorant.I also want to know more about your "chubby" genetics. Is your family fat or not? If you didn't have sports/military, where do you think you would be? Ignore the facts of the article and claim "no sympathy" if you please...Kiwi will still end up fat again.[Edited on May 26, 2007 at 1:11 AM. Reason : aaa]

Does it suck for some people because they have to work harder and staying at shape? Yes.I am one of those people, my family is overweight and I have work hard to stay in shape. I think what theDuke866 is saying is that he has no sympathy for overweight people who don't put in the extra effort to stay in shape yet bitch about their genetics and use it as a crutch. So you have to work out one or two times a week more than someone else or can't eat fast food as much? Who the fuck cares. Unless something is seriously long with your metabolism, anyone can be in shape.
