http://www.newsobserver.com/105/story/579578.htmlA kids dad bought this beautiful 1979 trans am with 26k miles on it and drove it a total of 30 miles in the year he's owned it. He decides to give it to his 16 yr old son for his first car. Well, the moron of a son he has decides he

I would have done the same thing. I don't like trans am's no matter what year they came from. I do appreciate classics though, just not that one. 67 Mustang would have been my choice, or a charger

well hopefully dad invests that money in a new Chevy Aveo or Kia Rio so his kid is happy

or a bicycle and invest the rest of the money in stocks or bonds, or a ING/HSBC savings account the kid is going to total his first car anyway if not kill himself and others sometime in his high school career.

When I was 16 gas was $1.00 or less and my car averaged 20MPG. I don't know how I could have afforded $3.00/gallon gas on a 10MPG car. I'd say the kid's life will be much better off if he's rocking an Accord instead.

I don't really like the '79 anyway I know, I know... bandit and all that...

I'd love to drive that car.

Damn, I love the Trans Am too. I think MiniMe_877 had one a while back, not sure if it was a '79 or not though. My impulse is to think the kid is crazy...however, having a 300+hp, 27k mile, pristine original as your first car would be pretty intimidating. I'd be scared as all hell to even scratch it. But I wouldn't turn it down either![Edited on May 25, 2007 at 5:34 PM. Reason : d]

^^ it actually did handle quite well for its day

I wouldn't have refused it/sold it out of respect for my pops, but driving a car that seems like it should be fast but can't hang with a v6 camry these days would eventually suck after you get over the "wow 79 trans am" thing

^^ you are an idiot, you continue to speak out of your ass and no seem to think its cool to disregard automotive history in favor of some numbers posted on some stupid website. heres the history lesson, and i am gonna keep it real short1 hp numbers were measured differently back then and often published at much lower ratings than actual2 late 70's- gas crisis. big hp cars didnt sell, and every car was horribly choked with emissisions devices like catalytic converters and air injection pumps. in 30 minutes you could seriously de-restrict a car enough to make a night and day difference which was only fair. historically you are an idiot. you dont have to call miss cleo to predict more of the same.apples to oranges comparisons are good for two things. jokes and idiots. you are both.
