http://www.galluppoll.com/content/?ci=27589The most ethical Congress in US history apparently hasn't struck a cord with the American people. Go figure!
5/15/2007 5:16:02 PM
higher approval than last year.
5/15/2007 5:17:27 PM
If you're happy with 29 percent then so am I!
5/15/2007 5:18:11 PM
i'm just saying people are happier with this congress than the republican-led congress of last year.
5/15/2007 5:18:36 PM
People...all 29 percent of them. Congrats on the high numbers!
5/15/2007 5:20:20 PM

OMG LOCK THIS I REFUSE TO BELIEVE BUSH IS MORE TOLERABLE THAN THE DEMOCRATIC HOUSE LOCK SUSPEND LOCK SUSPEND
5/15/2007 5:26:30 PM
^^Give em some time. They'll wear out their welcome just like the Repubs did.
5/15/2007 5:30:18 PM
With numbers like these, I think it's time to smash the state.
5/15/2007 5:30:23 PM
i think this is more a result of people not knowing what in the hell the congress does.whenever i mention that i watch cspan occassionally people look at me like i have the plague.
5/15/2007 5:35:44 PM
TreeTwista10, he's not more tolerable. His ratings have been so steady in those low-30's, regardless of what happens, because of four types of people. People who:1. think he has a really hard job and don't want to judge him2. always support the president no matter what3. always support the president in a time of war no matter what4. always support their partyIf you take a look at the Democratic Congress, the expectations for them are much higher. People were expecting these great, awesome changes to be made--and what do you know...it's pretty difficult to do anything when you're facing a quagmire and a foolish, difficult president who--get this--won't even acknowledge the heap of shit we're in. Anyway, lots of Republicans aren't going to approve no matter what. And the Democrats were hoping for a lot more from this congress. And so we have these low approval ratings. That does not make Bush more tolerable than the Democratic Congress.[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 5:40 PM. Reason : sss]
5/15/2007 5:38:21 PM
tell that to the gallup poll that disagrees with you, bridget
5/15/2007 5:41:05 PM
Um, maybe the expectations were high because the Democrats put them there to begin with?Yeah, Bush and the Republicans are to blame for a do nothing congress. You people and your spin, good luck riding that 29 percent to victory in '08!
5/15/2007 5:41:22 PM
5/15/2007 5:42:11 PM
^^^I was giving my interpretation of the numbers in the Gallup poll. You are so fucking obnoxious and retarded.[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 5:42 PM. Reason : sss]
5/15/2007 5:42:19 PM
You are very good at rationalization.Maybe you should be a lawyer. Or a political strategist.
5/15/2007 5:43:37 PM
call me obnoxious and retarded if you wantdoesnt change the fact that the gallup poll shows bush's approval rating is 33%, and congress' is 29%misdirected hostility from bridget
5/15/2007 5:43:38 PM
Retarded is trying to rationalize why 29% > 33%
5/15/2007 5:43:42 PM
and 29>25
5/15/2007 5:44:54 PM
we get it...your only point is that congress last year was even lower...you already said that like 3 times
5/15/2007 5:46:04 PM
Fuck this argument. Let's get right down to it.Do any of you actually believe that the American public genuinely approves of Bush more than the current congress (Democratic)?Do any of you actually believe that the American public genuinely approved of Bush more than the congress of last year (Republican)?Cause I'm saying NO to both, regardless of what the Gallup poll seems to indicate (to fools like TreeTwista10)...
5/15/2007 5:47:25 PM
so we should trust you and not the gallup and the 1,000+ people they polledcourse you live in the fantasy world where your opinions are completely representative of the american public]
5/15/2007 5:50:14 PM
when was the last time a congress had a higher approval than the president?
5/15/2007 5:55:01 PM
Bush has 4% on the Congress. This clearly means he wins. Mission accomplished, anyone?
5/15/2007 5:56:38 PM
and looking at the graphs, it looks like it's the republicans who make up most of the downward trend for the congressional approval
5/15/2007 5:57:19 PM
Approal rating for congress by Democrats is at 37%. That percentage has dropped a lot over the last month.^^^a month or 2 ago[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 6:08 PM. Reason : 2]
5/15/2007 5:57:31 PM
^^^^^I'm saying that you can't ignore this...
5/15/2007 5:58:25 PM
How about people who:5. Think he is doing a good job.?PS Independents approve of Bush at a higher percentage than they approve of congress. It looks like 27% approve of Bush versus 24% approval for congress by independents.[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 6:11 PM. Reason : 2]
5/15/2007 6:01:31 PM
5/15/2007 6:12:02 PM
Good question. It just goes to show how badly the Republicans fucked themselves by running away from the libertarian ideals which brought them to power in '94.
5/15/2007 6:19:52 PM
^They didn't really fuck themselves. Those people are still voting Republican. And since when did Republicans run away from Libertarian ideals? They've never really had Libertarian ideals--they just threw that out there to expand their tent.
5/15/2007 6:33:50 PM
Im pretty sure congress always has a lower approval rating than the president no matter who the president is, and no matter what party controls congress. People just seem to hate on the legislative branch.
5/15/2007 6:48:48 PM
if this is the case, then the fact that gallup even ran this story shows its bias.
5/15/2007 6:50:13 PM
^^^Not me. I don't vote republican anymore.Throughout the '80's and '90's, the Republican mantra was smaller government, fiscal responsibility, deregulation, etc. Go back to the "Contract with America" if you have to. It used to be that you could count on the republicans to try to butcher every social program they got their hands on. It was only recently that Christian conservatives and neocons really took control of the party.[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 6:52 PM. Reason : 2]
5/15/2007 6:52:18 PM
except that unless i'm mistaken, hardly any of the contract with america resulted in anything
5/15/2007 6:55:29 PM
Hell, they tried.Back then they weren't peddling shit like "No Child Left Behind" and the Patriot Act

5/15/2007 7:38:16 PM
Though it seems less appropriate these days given that the current administration is on the verge of collapse, and the Supreme Court and the Democratic Congress are dismantling much of the machinery piece by piece.
5/16/2007 12:44:05 AM
Since when did Republicans care about approval ratings so much?
5/16/2007 2:12:17 AM
You are surprised that Congress has poor approval ratings compared to a president? Welcome to political science.
5/16/2007 6:11:38 AM
Sure, all of congress has a shitty approval rating, democrats and republicans. But i've also seen polls showing that the american public supports what the democrats are trying to do by a huge margin (timetable for iraq, minimum wage, healthcare reform). So does this opinion poll reflect more on what the congress hasn't been able to get done (due to veto's and republicans stalling bills) or what they've been trying to do (afore mentioned policies)? I'd say it reflects frustration at what has actually been passed, which is very little due to veto's and other political roadblocks.
