I was driving to lunch in RTP and saw a car on the side of the road. Behind it was a Mustang, decked out with police lights everywhere.since when do cops drive mustangs?
5/10/2007 2:13:37 PM
a lot more rare than a vic, but I've seen plenty of police mustangs.
5/10/2007 2:15:40 PM
there's a red (burgundy) new-body-style mustang cop car in morrisville...
5/10/2007 2:23:55 PM
they've started driving every damn thing around here.
5/10/2007 2:24:06 PM
SHP had some Mustang LXs back in the 80's. Seems like a waste to me though.
5/10/2007 2:26:31 PM
actually, they were alot more efficient than the crown vics/caprices of the day while still being far superior in performance. tax dollars saved.
5/10/2007 2:34:22 PM
I've been seeing explorers around a lot now, that's too sneaky. Speeding is getting less safe.
5/10/2007 3:02:57 PM
i was wondering when this was going to happen
5/10/2007 3:04:15 PM
Chances are you saw it wrong and it was actually a Charger.the SHP just got in like 100 brand new black/burgandy/green/white chargers that they are using for their new line of cars. They are very slick and sneaky and I have came up on a few without noticing...the Chargers are prolly the hardest to spot to me because they arent recognizable as a cop car right off the bat.You have may seen it wrong since the front end does resemble a mustang from an untrained eye or from a distance passing by with a bit of speed.but I know there are a few mustangs in the Durham/Morrisville area as well. The tahoes are what get me, but I have come to find all of these new styles have black rims on them, straight black...so if i see black i hold back.
5/10/2007 3:10:16 PM
saw rpd working the beltline in an unmarked expedition the other day too.
5/10/2007 3:11:43 PM
5/10/2007 3:49:13 PM
shit, if you drive through greensboro, you'll see cops pulling folks over in camaros, mustangs, and tahoes. sneaking motherfuckers over there.
5/10/2007 3:52:05 PM
Yeah I have seen a few chargers on the side of the road pulling people over, once they start driving like 1992 honda accords and shit, is the day I will be fucked.
5/10/2007 3:56:21 PM
even small cities like Albemarle have had Mustang cop cars for awhile
5/10/2007 4:50:40 PM
yep seen this car a couple weeks back on evans right after the intersection of Cary Parkway
5/10/2007 4:55:05 PM
The unmarked Fusions are FTL
5/10/2007 5:30:53 PM
5/10/2007 6:07:40 PM
they were all used for pursuit/traffic purposes. very rarely was a backup car needed for transport. in such cases, they were likely to have a second car on scene anyway. i can't remember the exact numbers off hand, but i was looking over a website a while back when i had my 85 gt that showed a fairly significant cost savings with the mustang, mainly in fuel. they were discussing ca and fl who used them extensively.i'll see if i can google it up later tonight.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 6:24 PM. Reason : same with the b4c camaros]
5/10/2007 6:23:40 PM
i saw a pontiac minivan pull over some one a few weeks ago, had blue lights behind tinted glasswtf
5/10/2007 6:34:23 PM
Yes. That guy pulled me over.
5/10/2007 7:21:14 PM
The Chargers keep tripping me up; I always slow down when I see one, and seems like 95% of the time it's a rental car.Do you know if they're the V6 models or hemis? That could narrow it down some...though I've heard both are in use in various departments elsewhere, with the R/T's being pursuit cars and the V6 models patrols...
5/10/2007 7:40:17 PM
if a minivan tried to pull me over with lights behind tinted windows i know i would think twice about stopping.
5/10/2007 7:50:48 PM
I saw in cary on I-40 the other day there was an unmarked expedition, even with one of those soccer ball stickers with a kids name on it on the back window, and then blue lights came on and it pulled someone over
5/11/2007 2:01:58 AM
5/11/2007 2:34:27 AM
i saw a damn buick century pull someone over here in GSO, looked like just another wannabe gangsta's car without the rims yet since the windows were so dark, then the lights came on and when i was coming back the other way the co pwas handing over the ticket...
5/11/2007 6:51:36 AM
in Charleston they drive mustang 5.0's among other unusual choices for police interceptors.

oh, at a bball game this year there was what appeared to be a 1988 Crown Vic (unmarked) with the blue lights flashing (inside car), laptop in the car and radar in front and back. The cop who drove it was directing trafficthat shit is sneaky, no one looks for one of those anymore[Edited on May 11, 2007 at 8:02 PM. Reason : unmarked]
5/11/2007 8:01:27 PM
those have typically been retired from any patrol duties. there may be a few left in smaller departments around the state. rpd and shp did used to keep a few around just for that kind of purpose though... special events, etc.
5/11/2007 8:06:02 PM
okay, i didn't find the exact page i was looking for but here is a good ssp page anyway: http://www.sspmustang.org/it doesn't reference any specific gas mileage like the page i was thinking of, but it does talk about the 10-15% savings up front of the mustang vs. sedans which i had forgotten about.common sense tells you the much lighter mustang would have gotten considerabley better mileage though. most came with just a 2.73 (manual) or 3.08 (auto) ratio.
5/11/2007 8:19:21 PM
Leland has a mustang that they use to work the little stretch of 74-76 that is in their city limits. I've seen it quite a few times.
5/12/2007 12:16:41 AM
Anything other than the regular ol' Crown Vic with lights on top should be run right into the ditch. I can spot those 2 miles away. Sneaky bastards!
5/12/2007 12:36:39 AM
entrapment!
