2001 civic ex 5sp 97k miles (with timing belt package done at 95k)I bought the car from a private party, and I didn't know of any mechanics to take it to when I bought it. It had pretty bad road noise from next to bald tires so I didn't notice some of the other things about the car.She mentioned that she had some of the front suspension stuff replaced. Anyways...The car makes a clunking sound at load speeds when turning sharp left and loading the passenger side wheel. it does this in forward and reverse, and going over a bump... Immediate thought was CV joint but I just checked it and it looks brand new and I can't see any grease comming from the boot.Looking through the records I found the suspension work she mentioned... She complained about a roaring sound (most likely the tires that I replaced...) and they replaced both front wheel bearings, both front lower control arms, and the left front strutt assembly, then aligned the front end.So I can't find a record of the CV joint being replaced but it looks freakin brand new...Idea's?

hell, could be ALOT of things. noises can be hard enought to diagnose in person, much less over the internet. is it a low clunk or a higher pitched click? bad cv's typically click. suspension part clunk generally. if that makes any sense.

maybe strut bearing plates

definitely probably not the cv then. sounds like something shifting in the suspension. any correlation with hitting bumps?

well the chick said she her parking lot was being redone and she ran over the change in the pavement... so possible, I just need to know what to look at... unfortunately I live on a huge hill so I have to do any work after work in the parking lot at work and can't just run out and check on stuff...

could be a crackhead that got hold of the wrong stuff and it told him to get in your front end and make a clunking sound

well, off hand i would check:-all the strut mounting bolts-tie rods-ball jointscould be about 20 other things though. i think your best bet is going to be get someone in the know at a shop or from here to take a listen to it.

well beatsunc stood me up 2 weeks ago when I tried...JK we had our days mixed up...I mean I figure I should be able to figure this thing out myself if I wasn't in such a damn hurry to get home after work and would just jack it up and take the wheels off.

jack it up and spin the wheel (while turned each way and strait)bounce up and down on the strut tower to see if anything is rattleing.just do a general overview of it.if that fails.light it on fire.or sell to me for $400
