I want to see what other opportunities may be out there for me and want to work with a recruiter/head hunter. Does anyone have one or know of one that they would recommend?I am currently a web developer working primarily with Java/PHP/ColdFusion (complete vertical development from proposal -> design -> implementation). I am looking for a job with a software company to be a project leader / senior software developer.I currently live in Raleigh and would like to stay in the Raleigh area.

Call Ajilon 859-5550. The lady I work with doesn't specialize in that type of stuff but if you call them and tell them what you need, they'll hook you up with somenoe that does.http://www.ajilon.com[Edited on May 9, 2007 at 4:56 PM. Reason : they have a charlotte office too]

I'm not sure how much they deal with software work (I know they do a little bit of everything, but are mainly office/admin type stuff) but Mike Tidwell at Express Personnel in Raleigh is good. 788-9575

my girlfriend works for a recruiting company that mainly works with IT people and RTP. it is a relatively small/new company, but they've had great results and she LOVES her job.http://www.selectgroup-rtp.com/There are lots of experienced recruiters and it is growing fairly quickly. PM me if you want her number as a contact/reference.

From my experience (which seems to be somewhat similar to yours) recruiters suck ass for serious web developers. Not to say there aren't good ones out there, but all the headhunters I had calling me had either engineering industry focus, or were marketing/sales industry focused. Neither side (I was on iwth 3-4 recruiters for a couple of years) ever found me jobs that I wanted to pursue.I actually (suprisingly) had a lot of luck with monster.com and careerbuilder.com in looking for more senior level positions. Any specific areas of the country you are looking for? For some places (San Fran, Seattle, NYC, LA, San Diego etc) there are good locale specific places to find a LOT of development opportunities.

how much does a headhunter charge? Can they get me a job with a low GPA?
5/26/2007 10:13:08 PM
I have simliar questions.
5/27/2007 3:31:29 AM
i know my girlfriend's firm doesn't charge you, they charge the company you'll be working for. if they place you, they could charge...say $70,000 a year. they in turn pay you $60,000 a year and keep the other remaining part...but they negotiate the contract for you and get you what you want while getting a little for themselves
5/27/2007 4:11:44 AM
^yep. they shouldn't charge you. Never heard of one that has
5/27/2007 11:10:59 AM
So, who should I call then?

OK, I will answer whatever I can. I worked for one of the top staffing companies in Charlotte for 8 months(before they went downhill and everyone quit, myself included). 1) If you tell them where you interviewed, they will call there and try to place people. 2) They do not charge recruits, they charge the company. If someone tried to charge you tell them to screw off. 3) They look for experience and people who are well spoken, GPA does not really play into it. Who to call, Ajilion, Robert Half Technology, Sherpa, Apex, Signature, Tek Systems, that will get you started, if you have experience, this will get you more calls that you want. Job hunting advice. Put all the buzz(C#, netscreen, avaya, etc) words in your resume multiple times. Get on all the job boards, monster/hotjobs/dice/careerbuilder. Update your resume EVERY morning, just reupload it and you will be on the top of the search. Put a nice title to your search, "Well Spoken , Hard Working, Help Desk" or whatever, this will show up better on monster than "Paul Smith Res Ver-1-5". Have a professional email and professional voicemail message(Duh, but I ran into this a lot) Answer your phone like you have some damn sense. "Hello, this is Peter" Any other questions, fire away via PM.

^ good adviceanybody else?

don't let a recruiting company talk to a company you have previously interviewed with in hopes of placing you. you won't know whether or not you would have gotten the job anyway, and if they make that call they will cut into your paycheck and benefits if you do in fact get the job.

i got my job through TEK Systems - i went and talked to many, many staffing agencies and i would certainly say they are the bestthey still keep in contact with me and take me out to lunch every now and thenstay away from this one called resolvit resources
