Even though I'm still a student, I'm too old to be covered under my parents health insurance anymore.Who else has this problem and what are you doing for health coverage? Do you go through the school or do you pay for an individual plan through an insurance provider? I'm looking for something that covers most of doctors visits and hopefully perscriptions.

UPS gives part times employees health insurance. I've known a couple people who worked there for that reason. It's shit pay ($10/hour or less I think) and pretty shitty job but it's not a bad deal if you really need the insurance.

I think they start insurance now at day 1 - but I can't remember if that's day 1 literally or day 31 (first day after probationary period ends)

Yeah, I'm on the Blue Advantage site right now looking at their plans. It's definitely better than I thought it would be.

I had blue cross for a few months over the summer when I was between schools and I paid about $115/month for it. Only used it to see my regular doctor for a check up, so I can't say how good the benefits were. You can apply online and I believe the coverage starts day 1 (as in, no probationary period).

My sister is still at State and has the student health plan. She is pretty happy with it because it's cheap and she doesn't really have any prescriptions to worry about. If you're healthy and want to save money, do the student health thing, if you want better coverage and are willing to pay a little more, go with Blue Advantage. I pay $120 a month for that (if you want an idea).

Yeah, I'm gonna need to pay for some perscriptions and the occasional visit to a doc so I'm gonna need something more than just the state plan.
