there are so many threads in here with nice, clean, $$ cars i thought we needed one dedicated to some true beaters. this is just one of many i've owned, and certainly not my last. if you've never owned one, you don't know what you're missing.

i present my $400 1976 dodge ramcharger (aka the yarrrcharger). 318, 3 speed manual on the column, np203 fulltime t-case. there is no top on it because i don't even have one, not because the weather is nice.

i've had it for almost a year, but haven't really had a chance to do much with it until now because of my wreck. it sat in a field for almost 2 years before i bought it. a little gas, a battery, and i drove it onto the trailer. it's also complete with fred flinstone floorpans (rusted out) which were tastefully covered with diomand plate mud flaps by the previous owner.

i've been doing some little things on it this week in preperation of taking it 4 wheeling and flogging it mercilessly this weekend:

-hacked off the sweet aluminum running boards, the ghetto home built angle iron trailer hitch, and the "bug off" brand bug deflector.

-welded the rear differential

-pulled off the cop car style hubcaps and painted the rims

-zip tied a bunch of wiring, the air horns, and other various hanging parts back up to the frame/body

-started painting the lower part flat black for a new look and to mask all the rust

tomorrow it will get:

-new motor mounts to replace the completely sheared ones on there now

-paint finished

-underbody/rock lights

-cleaning out the layer of leaves, acorns, etc. from the inside









okay, lets see some other beaters. rules are you can't have more than $1000 in it (zxappeal's cummins not included, lol) and it must be UGLY.

Yarcharger is looking pretty damn good actually. I tried to keep her moving while you were out of commission.

That said, ya might want to make sure the battery is secured. Used zipties last time and then we cut them to put that battery in another...beater.

My '82 Malibu would have qualified when I bought it, $800 for a good running car, just UGLY (surface rust over oxidized light blue paint). Can't find any pics of it in that state (eventually put an el cheapo paint job on it, at which point it looked nicer than it actually was).

Good car though, drove it for 2+ years with a total investment of maybe $1500, ~300 of which was a new carb at one point.

My beater is in the e30 thread. It was less than $1k, but I've got a little more than that in it now. I still don't have a spare tire. Ended up at Lake Gaston last weekend with a damn torx wrench stuck through the right rear tire. How that happened is beyond me, but it was leaking pretty bad. Plugged it up with a gummy plug and it's holding air just fine. It is nice to have a car that you really don't worry about. I take it downtown, to bars, etc and I drove it all winter while the S2000 sat in the garage.

man...i looked at those ramchargers behind that guys shop about a year ago. i think he wanted 1500 for both of them? the add was on craigslist. good buy for 750, great buy for 400. i couldn't afford another car at the time. good score. what happend to the other one? he cranked it up for me and it sounded mean. cammed up and hardly any exhaust.

'71 Olds Delta 88 Custom, not a standard or a royale, complete with 455 2bbl and flo-thru ventilation. I never registered it, just threw some old TX tags on it and drove it all summer. Something in the back drums was leaking brake fluid, I never really cared I kept dumping fluid in it every couple days. One day Jen and I were out cruising around out by Falls Lake and one of the airshocks blew out, sounded like a shotgun went off under the car, it didnt really ride much different even with one dead shock, nice old boat action. I ended up pulling the 455 and going through it before putting it into the Cutlass. Its been gone through twice since, but its still in there now. The rolling shell I gave to a guy in PA basically for free, I contact him every once in a while but he dosent want to give it back, and I dont blame him. This and the Volvo I wish I had never let go... oh well live and learn.

here is my beatarghh. gets beaten more often then my dick. not a straight part on that bike and i now have a salvage title to make it complete. i believe resale value on it is somewhere around 100 bucks and a 12 pack. on the positive side, i never get crowded in when i leave it in motorcycle parking areas and also it will probably never be stolen.
