^^^ and ^^ Who are you, or who is Tom Stafford or Dr. Oblinger, to tell me how long I can have to tailgate? By the time I pay my lifetime rights, tickets, wolfpack club contribution, and parking, I think I've given enough $ to warrant me no longer being treated like a five year old.[Edited on May 1, 2007 at 4:46 PM. Reason : .]
5/1/2007 4:45:36 PM
a five year old can probably spell 'warrant' correctly
5/1/2007 4:47:09 PM
well, maybe when you stop shooting people for an extended period of time you can be let out of time out
5/1/2007 4:48:01 PM
Ernie,I appologize for my misspelling; I edited just as you were posting. I've never been the best speller, more a science and math guy. Sorry about that. I will try to better in the future. I hope I haven't ruined your day.
5/1/2007 4:48:48 PM
Don't get me wrong. I think all of the restrictions are fucking stupid and a typical knee jerk overreaction to an isolated incident by our administration. At this point, they are what they are though.I also think it is fucking stupid to complain when it is obvious that progress is being made in the right direction. Maybe a few more years and they will be back to what they once were.
5/1/2007 4:48:52 PM
I am happy that the "fire retardant tent" rule was thrown out....that was the stupidist bullshit ever last year.....And its good that we get an extra hour to tailgate and all but I won't be completely happy until we get back to the Rivers-era tailgating when we could show up at Trinity and stake out a piece of land on Friday afternoon and campout the night with your girlfriend and party all day on Saturday. My tailgating crew stayed in shifts on Saturday while some would go out for groceries/drinks and stuff. Those were the days...

I was going to do the whole quote and comment thing, but it's really not worth the effort. This has been discussed in previous threads with the same tired arguements. Without rehashing them again, all I can say is that numerous reasons to have no limit on tailgating have been provided. The only two I have ever seen against are that 52,000 people somehow forced two others to murder and the "I don't think people should be drinking so much let me use this to force my personal decisions on them."It's old, got anything new?
5/1/2007 4:53:25 PM
it's just silly that people think that because they pay a shitload of money, they can just do whatever they want
5/1/2007 4:53:43 PM
back in my day, it took us at least 3 hours to load up the wagon and get the wood grill out to the field. Course back in those days, we had to slaughter our own livestock and brew our own beer, so obviously we needed all that extended time to tailgate.
5/1/2007 4:54:47 PM
^^ But I don't. I don't think that anyone in my tailgate group should drink so much that they infringe on others' ability to have a good time. I don't think you should have to listen to my music. I don't think I have any more a say than any student; I was one a short time ago. But what does any of that, or any safety issue, have to do with the time people are tailgating. I don't want to force anyone to get there as early as me, just let me do what I want and I'll let you do what you want.[Edited on May 1, 2007 at 4:58 PM. Reason : .]
5/1/2007 4:57:46 PM
according to the administration: time + beer = shots firedhave you voiced your complaints anywhere other than the internet
5/1/2007 4:59:29 PM
the administration is full of a bunch of fucktards. How about they call VT and tell them they should start classes later and maybe no one would get shot. doh

they have to do something to look politically correct after the shootings. Everyone knows that a 5 hour cap on tailgating is not going to deter something like that from happening again. Hopefully it never happens again, but there are some real fucking idiots out there. It is pretty lame, were those kids out there for like 5 hours and 15 minutes and drinking furiously non-stop into a homicidal rage?
5/1/2007 6:40:21 PM
it also has something to do with alumni complaining about drunk students ruining their families fun (like they weren't students once... that and I know plenty of alumni who get just as drunk as the "worst" fans)
5/1/2007 6:42:10 PM
^ even so, 5 hours of drinking hard and people are gonna get crunk... why cap it?
5/1/2007 6:43:28 PM
it's just something the university felt they needed more control overjust like they got so heavily involved in patrolling the greek life systemi think it's all stupid, but who am I to say that
5/1/2007 6:45:23 PM
yeah I think their point of view is more of "I'm gonna cover my ass" in case something does happen, even though they know that a time limit to tailgating can't deter shit.
5/1/2007 6:54:17 PM
makes me a little bit happier
5/1/2007 7:06:56 PM
I think their point of view is more "Let's choose a different arbitrary start time" for tailgating, since the old one didn't work out.Obviously restricting the time people arrive at the parking lot is the only way to prevent incidents from happening in the parking lot after kickoff.
5/2/2007 10:44:37 AM
Why don’t they double the police officers patrolling the student sections from 2 to 4?
5/2/2007 11:04:18 AM
^ yes! the answer (honestly) is more police, not less time.
5/2/2007 11:08:26 AM
I remember an article about attending a Clemson football game last year. The technician writer talked about the high police presence but without the hassling between the police and the students. They also let anyone who wanted to come on the field after the game come on the field. And everyone knew they could get on the field so they didn’t rush it or anything. From what Clemson apparently does, we need to model ourselves with what they does right.

5 hours is better than 4. When we had the 4 hour in place for say a 7 olcock game id tell my friends to be ready to leave at 245 get out there at 3....course with a bunch of slow asses wed get out there at 330-4, NOW i can say lets get out there at 2 be ready for 145 and at least i really will get 4 hours when the slow bastards take until 230-3.
