What do you mean, "does it work"? It's a multivitamin. What do you think it's claiming to do?

Extremely doubtful.

I use Greens+ powder. Its been a great product for me. I just mix it into my post-workout shake. I'm not a fan of the taste when mixed with just water or juice, but if you hide it well enough you should be fine.

David I think either way that massive 130 pound frame of yours won't take too many hits.

I need to maintain my girlish figure.

As I understand it, it's marketed by a group afiliated with Quickstar aka Amway aka NOT TO BE TRUSTEDPersonally, I think it's crap and if you want a good supplement the go to GNC and talk to them.

So, can you two suggest a good one for me?

5/1/2007 1:28:33 PM
^Yeah, actually eating vegetables and fruits is indeed the best option. The literature suggests that this is generally superior to taking supplements.
5/1/2007 1:30:37 PM
Damn.
5/1/2007 1:33:24 PM
just buy a cheap generic multivitamin from walmart or Sam's Club / BJ's and used it as a supplement to your normal vegetable intake. multivitamins aren't going to provide you with things like fiber, potassium, and calcium that you need from dietary intake.[Edited on May 1, 2007 at 1:34 PM. Reason : it's possible to cut vegetables out of a diet, but I'm not going to recommend it.]
5/1/2007 1:33:34 PM
and it's not just that you get adequate amounts of fiber, potatssium, or vitamin C...is that you get them in conjunction with other nutrients that they're normally found with. most research shows that individually taken vitamins, minerals, whathaveyou are not as effective unless they are taken with all of the other nutrients commonly found in vegetables. so...spinach is a good source of vitamin A, B6, E, folic acid, potassium, zinc, and magnesium...and you can take those things separately but you really get the benefits when you eat them along with the antioxidants, amino acids, etc in the spinach.okay, long story short: eat your spinach.

besides it tastes good
5/1/2007 1:42:08 PM
NEVER!

5/1/2007 1:56:00 PM
Ok, now we're talking.
5/1/2007 1:59:42 PM
Yeah man...Check out the ingredient list. It's good stuff. I eat a salad or two per day, but I don't feel that I eat enough veggies, much less enough of the leafy greens. This combines those missing veggies with all the algaes, etc. that people say is so good for you.
5/1/2007 2:03:50 PM
^ ok some things in it are good, because you won't be eating those things ever.but all the vegetable and fruit freeze dried powders, they are useless:
5/1/2007 3:55:52 PM
A gram of dried powder would be equivalent to an ounce of the real thing, and freeze drying a food isn't going to remove the nutritional value it provides.
5/1/2007 3:59:24 PM
i know freeze drying protects the nutrients... i never said it didn't.but are you really saying that 1 gram of powder = 28 grams of real thing? are you saying that out of 28 grams of any vegetable/fruit, 27 grams is water?
5/1/2007 4:06:21 PM
for some of those ingredients listed, it's close. most of them are probably anywhere from 70-95% water in their natural form. I know that's not exactly an ounce, but I was just using approximations of whole units of measurement.
5/1/2007 4:24:06 PM
Even if you can technically get the nutrients from these pills, do you think it's possible to be really healthy without ever eating anything other than meat, cheese, and carbohydrates like bread, brown rice, and pasta? I think that's what David wants to do, but I just don't think it's possible. You're either going to get too much fat, too much protein, too many calories, not enough fiber, etc, etc. Pills can't be a substitute for balanced meals.
5/1/2007 4:29:27 PM
salads are tasty.
5/1/2007 4:39:34 PM
^^ No vegetarian bias in my thread!
5/1/2007 4:45:30 PM
I didn't write that as a vegetarian. I wrote it as a person with a perspective on what it takes to be healthy.
5/1/2007 4:49:09 PM
Go back to drinking your Corona.
5/1/2007 4:54:26 PM
the key component is spirulina, that's where most of the nutrition is coming from...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirulina_%28dietary_supplement%29
5/1/2007 5:09:54 PM
^ Yeah, Spirulina was one of the key components that I looked for in all the green dranks that I've tried. It really is an amazing food.As for the other stuff, I eat anywhere from three to six servings of fruit per day and at least one or two salads. I try to cook asparagus and broccoli fairly often, but I don't get enough of it. I take a multivitamin (One-A-Day Mens Forumula), but I have always felt that I'm missing out a lot on the veggies; especially the leafy greens.I just consider Green Vibrance to be a good supplement to my diet. It only has around 45 calories per serving and I like the taste; so I just mix it in with some other juice that I happen to be drinking that day. I've turned several people on to it and most of the people that use it for a few days get hooked and consider it a part of their normal diet as well.
