Right now, I'm getting to work with one of my idols, Steve Carell, on a movie [a remake of the 1960s TV show "Get Smart"].http://www.heroes-tv.com/modules/news/ (for quote)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425061/[Edited on April 29, 2007 at 1:36 AM. Reason : d]

Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart? interesting/weird/o.O
4/29/2007 1:48:31 AM
so long as he can play it straight what always made maxwell smart so cool is he never realized it was funny
4/29/2007 1:52:58 AM
ever seen the office?

I've loved the idea of Carell as Maxwell Smart ever since I first heard about it, but I'm still not sold on Hathaway as 99. The part needs someone just a tad more mature, though I don't have anyone better in mind. I'm hoping she can pull it off based on pure talent, but she's never given me the vibe that 99 has.I'm glad to see The Rock on board...he's completely underrated as a comic actor. If you don't believe me, check out his SNL appearances, specifically playing off Tracy Morgan.

From what I read about the remake, it could suck really hard. The setup is that Maxwell Smart is some kind of research assistant or some other geek who dreams of one day becoming a secret agent. Then, through a series of events, gets to fulfill his dream. The movie's about an awkward, self-doubting Maxwell adapting to the life of a secret agent. That's not what the show was about at all.The original Smart was clever, self-confident, albeit sometimes clumsy. The movie has Smart as some lab geek wannabe secret agent. Let's just say, I have my doubts.

Oh, so it's a Johnny English remake.

Larry Storch is still alive and kickin'...perhaps the movie could feature an appearance by my all-time favorite KAOS agent, The Groovy Guru.

^^He's funny... just not in the way he thinks he is.

I watched get smart and inspector gadget as a kid and not until last week did I realize gadget was based on maxwell smartsometimes I think I am retarded
7/16/2007 3:55:45 AM
I'm not sure that Gadget is based on Maxwell Smart so much as Don Adams only did one character. Granted, he was absolutely fucking incredible at that character, but Smart/Gadget/Tennessee Tuxedo are all pretty much the same act.

I dunnothe more I think about it, the more it makes sensegadget/smart, penny/99same way fred flinstone is based on jackie gleason in the honeymoonersI just looked it up, and a writer is shared by both shows[Edited on July 16, 2007 at 4:22 AM. Reason : fgsdr]

but to back up my point, voicing a cartoon character limits ones' mark on that character, whereas a live action show lends itself to the characters and allows the actors to make the characters their ownlike he can't use hand motions, eyebrow motions etc.. at some point a writer had to instruct the cartoon character and the voice is just the voicejust my opinion, like I said I am a fan of both and will be seeing this moviethe guy in odd positions always telling them both their assignments....guess how many episodes of inspector gadget there were........86[Edited on July 16, 2007 at 4:53 AM. In the second picture that pocketdeuces posted (the one with the 'cone of silence' i think) I swear it looks like Carell from behind. As for the whole Michael Scott thing, he does try to be funny at times, but his funniest moments are when he's serious. Besides, Carell isn't necessarily going to treat the two characters the same way.

Get Smart was my #1 favorite show growing up. I'm sure this moving is going to be horrible, though.
6/20/2008 12:03:05 PM
ebert says it is the only remake to live up to the originalfor what thats worth
6/20/2008 1:22:23 PM
saw it last night, it was pretty funny.
6/20/2008 1:23:45 PM
I liked it, it was a bit slow to start but I was laughing throughout
6/21/2008 2:51:16 AM
I thought it was great. One of those movies where I am surprised it didnt get more positive reviews. It hasnt gotten bad reviews, but more mixed than I would have figured. I hope they make another.
6/21/2008 7:49:49 PM
I pretty much laughed the entire time.I was expecting a decent movie, but this was freakin awesome.A nice balance of humor and action, with an appropriate homage to the tv series. I'm glad I saw this.
6/22/2008 3:13:22 AM
I loved this movie. Carell was a good fit...he didn't copy Don Adams...he made the role his own.
6/22/2008 3:15:05 AM
really liked it
6/22/2008 11:10:26 AM
went and saw this tonight and I actually genuinely enjoyed it as a comedy and im extremely picky about movies.
6/22/2008 11:55:47 PM
Definitely laughed throughout this movie, and thought it was a good movie.Loved that Carell made the role his own like joepeshi said. Was a good balance for me and would reccommend to others.
6/23/2008 12:51:12 AM
Pretty funny stuff. I though it would terrible, but it was actually very solid..especially for a summer blockbuster type flick.
6/23/2008 1:20:10 AM
Like others, I laughed a good bit in this movie, and usually I don't really laugh unless I'm making fun of it. Not exactly a lot of memorable material though.
6/23/2008 3:41:27 AM
for sure. it would never come up if someone was talking about my favorite movies or even favorite comedies, but somehow I was kept laughing the entire time. And this wasnt laughing at it because it was stupid, it was genuine laughter intended from the movie.
6/23/2008 7:24:05 AM
saw this tonight and laughed throughout--perfect exactly what i hoped for!stoopid critics...
6/23/2008 9:22:49 PM
