I'm interested in practicing Buddhism and learning hands on what wikipedia and a Barnes and Noble book can't tell you. Does anyone on here consider themselves a Buddhist, if so what type, and do you practice around here? Any advice or literature that you can point a beginner too? I've googled and have so far come up with a small list of buddhist temples in the triangle, with one called the "raleigh zen group" that sticks out in particular. Thanks for any input/advice.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean since I've been single since November, but anyways, back to the topic at hand...

That's pretty cool. I had a list of most Buddhist temples in NC. There are actually a few around the area. I don't think literature is as important in Buddhism as it as in Christianity or Islam, for example. I'm not that religious, so I don't officially identify with any religion. But if I had to... I can relate most to Taoism and consequently Buddhism. It's more of a cultural thing for me though.

I would suggest just visiting one of the temples.I was interested in learning about Islam so one day when I was driving by the mosque I just stopped in and found someone to talk to. At first he gave me a crazy eye (I look like a Nazi with my shaved head) but after I explained that I was interested in learning more he talked to me for a half hour and gave me all sorts of reading materials. Preeeettty neat!

Kadampa Center...I went there for about a year. Good people and they have a real Tibetan Geshe who teaches there. Turns out they moved from their location in Cary and are in a temporary location until they get the new center up and running.http://www.kadampa-center.org/Not sure why you are set on Zen, but Kadampa isn't a Zen center. They teach Mahayana Buddhism there. Either way it's a great place to go to get an introduction to Buddhism, especially if you've never practiced formally before.

I am a Fan of Buddha, but I don't consider myself a practicing Buddhist.

^^^I'm not any set on Buddhism any more than any other kind, except for the fact that it seems more meditation-based which I find a little more interesting. Right now I'm just interested in finding more about any denomination of Buddhism.

I'm an equal opportunity religion basher, so here goes:While buddhism is a religion I can identify with more than christianity, it's still based on tons of superstitions and silliness. Do what makes ya happy, though
