True or false

If someone can sing a cappella and still sound good or even better than with instruments they have true singing talent?

depends on the song, I've heard a capella versions of shitty songs that made it sound better

true for groups that sing in harmony ... it's kind-of a crap shoot if it's only one or two

singing a cappella takes at least relative pitch, preferably perfect pitch.

if you can stay in tune throughout the entire song with a group singing freaky harmonies all around you for the entire song, you, my friend, have true singing talent.

take this from someone who's been in this position.

and ActionPants, have you ever tried to sing Hide and Seek a cappella? it's hard as shitttttt.

^I agree completely. It takes true skill to sing well with instruments, and even more skill to be a good soloist for an a cappella group. But it takes the whole group to make a song sound good. Everyone must stay on pitch - if the group is off, the soloist will be off too, because they rely on the group for support (be it rhythm, dynamics and pitch). So, most people who sing in decent to good a cappella groups must be good singers. Those individuals who are soloists are among the best of those.

I've had about 4 years of a cappella experience, and can call myself a pretty damn good singer. I've also had the pleasure and honor of singing with other damn good singers in the various groups that I've been in.

Skill level:

group a capella > singing with live instrumentation > singing with recorded instrumentation > singing alone a capella

It's all about pitch and the ability to blend that takes skill.

yeah, if you're singing, say a bob dylan song, doing as good as the original isn't going to indicate singing talent.

True or false: a cappella groups and individuals are generally very annoying.
