Well its not mine yet, but I put a deposit on it. I'll be taking it for a test drive tomorrow and be getting it checked out by a mechanic. If everything goes well tho, it should be mine by the end of the week. Its a 1996 Monterey Special Edition Montura 18' 6" with the 4.3L Mercrusier. I'm planning on putting a tower on it, and enjoying the heck out of it this summer. What do yall think?Since I havent bought it yet, do you think its an overall nice boat, and should I look out for anything in particular?[Edited on April 22, 2007 at 8:19 PM. Reason : k]

not bad bennyyou gonna have it up here or WVU or SC or where???def. gotta throw in a sound system
4/22/2007 8:25:11 PM
Make sure you repack the trailer bearings with grease or put on some bearing buddies. I've had the bearings fail on a boat trailer I was towing and its not fun.
4/22/2007 9:16:25 PM
how much you paying for it?
4/22/2007 10:15:30 PM
i want to go for a ride!
4/22/2007 10:17:14 PM
they are asking $8,500... Im goin to neg. depending on the demo, what do you think would be a good price?
4/22/2007 10:20:14 PM
that looks like a fun boat!
4/22/2007 10:22:25 PM
according to http://www.nadaguides.com average retail is like $7650 with that motorbut thats base price. I assume it has a decent cover, radio, maybe some life jackets. You should probably be able to jew them down some though.[Edited on April 22, 2007 at 10:31 PM. Reason : ]

not quite a r6.. but she'lll do
4/22/2007 10:48:35 PM
yea, it comes with a cover, a ss prop, a whale tail, some vest... but its on overall great shape, perfect hull, no rips in interior, solid floor, no stree cracks in gelcoat. its been kept on a lift, so its good.
4/22/2007 11:44:43 PM
very clean! nice...
4/22/2007 11:50:18 PM
Hey if anyone has anything boat related they wanted to sell just let me know. Bumpers, rope, etc. Its gotta be cheap tho,Couple questions:1. I want to clean/polish the gelcoat before I used it (good break from studying for finals) what is the best stuff to use.2. What is the best stuff to clean the vinyl interior? Ive heard the 3M stuff.3. Anything else you think I may be forgetting in general. Ive never had a boat before, so i dont know everything by anymeans.[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 12:36 AM. Reason : k]
4/23/2007 12:34:02 AM
is that costing about the same as the bike... if so looks like fun
4/23/2007 7:05:52 AM
8,500>5,300 ... so not really, but my co-op will be paying the rest.
4/23/2007 8:06:13 AM
star-brite products, best shit ever for boats
4/23/2007 8:15:49 AM
i've always used a mildew type surface cleaner for boat vinyl. tilex, etc. follow it up with a good hosing off to rinse it away.
4/23/2007 10:10:25 AM
^^ where can i get that, west marine?
4/23/2007 10:27:51 AM
what type tower are you going with?
4/23/2007 11:27:05 AM
Either West or Boater's World will carry the complete line of Star-Brite products.I use West's house brand stuff quite often, but for buffing, etc., I'll either use Star-Brite or 3M. The last buff job I did I used 3M Rubbing Compound (liquid in the bottle)...it's expensive stuff but works well. I also have a buffer that I use. Screw doing it by hand. That shit BLOWS.
4/23/2007 11:49:50 AM
^RO or rotary? My RO (PC 7336) can barely handle really oxidized gel coats, thinking of stepping up to a rotary this season.
4/23/2007 12:22:48 PM
Rotary. 7" disc.Random Orbitals are barely worth their weight in shit, in my opinion. They work well for waxing, but everything else, may as well hang it up.
4/23/2007 12:53:13 PM
looks good. you'll have a blast with it. you'll be happy that you got the 4.3, most 18' come with a 3.0 max. you'll enjoy the extra power...
4/23/2007 2:14:05 PM
Well I just went and picked up my deposit, bitch was straight up crazy. Im gonna get a Monster Tower, Ive got a guy who has connections to everyone in the boating world and can hook me up with a good deal on one.I'll keep ya updated on what im getting now, i just couldnt buy a boat from a crazy lady. She wanted me to pay cash today with out it getting checked out, so no thanks. I'm not in a hurry, and this def isnt the only boat out there.
4/23/2007 4:20:34 PM
^^^I would have to agree for gel coats... for cars though, I haven't met a clear coat (including Audi's and VW's with incredibly hard clear) that a RO with a cutting pad and a decent compound couldn't handle. Sweet looking boat though, sorry to get off topic.
4/23/2007 5:01:32 PM
Monster tower are pretty sweet. What are you looking for? I have seen so many boats for sale lately.
4/23/2007 6:23:54 PM
a good cleaner is a gel called fsr - comes in a plastic type can with screw off top - if there are any unwanted marks or waterlines on the hull it will get them out with no problem. star brite products are also really good.
4/23/2007 7:56:33 PM
Thanks for all the help so far. I'm looking for a decent sized runabout, that i can double as a wakeboarding boat. 18-21ft, with atleast a 4.3L engine in good condition but below 10k
4/23/2007 9:49:19 PM
i'd look for a '96 up 5.7 mercruiser with a bravo outdrive for decent power and reliability, the 4.3's are kinda sluggish and aren't easily built for power, and usually have an alpha 1 outdrive
4/23/2007 9:55:27 PM
^ help my find one and ill look at it
4/23/2007 10:08:38 PM
well i think im just gonna go ahead and go big and get this one:Its got the 5.7L, its a '96 Lason w/monster tower with lots of extras for avergae nada price. What yall think about this one?
4/25/2007 8:19:35 PM
If you want a boat to wakeboard behind, get one built for it. Same for fishing.
4/25/2007 8:30:18 PM
down in riveria maya you can take a "drive your own speedboat tour", of all the boats in the world they seem to al use hydrostream vectors or vamps, little 12 or 14 in 'streams for sure though with weak outboards. i was mad cause i cant find one up here at all.
4/25/2007 8:37:43 PM
what's the length on it?you can still have fun on that for whatever you want to do, and be comfortable and be able to have a decent amount of people on board. Now if you'll be wakeboarding every day or just wakeboarding or just fishing then yeah I can see buying a task specific boat. but if you are going to do different things all the time then a bowrider just can't be beat.you'll be happy no matter what.
4/25/2007 9:12:55 PM
I agreewhats a borider
4/25/2007 9:19:41 PM
Woody Wax or 3M Teflon Wax (I think its 3M, and I'm not sure if they still make it, but I used it last summer on our boat and it has been awesome). Doing by hand is the mans way, unless you get wax swirls on the bottom paint. I like Flitz to polish and wax metal surfaces, props etc. Also, I use simple green to clean the interior.
4/25/2007 9:20:31 PM
i use simple green to clean all interior areas, and then a coat of 303 vinyl protectant... that stuff is awesome http://www.303products.com/main.php?infopage=homei currently use meguires products, cuz it was new and I just wanted to protect it.... when it runs out which will be after this spring's clean/polish/wax i'm switching over to 3M

You cannot find a wakeboard specif boat for under $10k, plus im not a pro or even really that good for that matter so I dont need one. I just want something that I can chill on, cruise around the lake, do some tubing, some wakeboarding, and just relax and drink a beer. Its 21'6", and rated for somthing ridiculous like 13ppl. I think it will be fun, I'm young I dont need and cant afford my dream boat yet, but this will def get me started.
4/25/2007 11:56:39 PM
I think you'll like it. Wakeboard boats are great if you are looking for a knee high wake, but there are some disadvantages too. You can't trim them up or down so the ride is harsh and they chug gas like it's being poured through a beer bong. Maybe you'll want to upgrade later, but I think this was a good choice for now.
4/26/2007 12:06:24 AM
^^yeah i'm generalizing, if you only wakeboard then fine get a wakeboard boat.... but from what I could tell he was looking for via past threads was a good all around starter boat, which is pretty much what a bowrider is.as for newer wakeboard boats being nicer i guess it depends on what you consider nice? I consider it speed, comfort, handling, affordability, maintenance, etc....the newer wakeboard boats are nice, nice and flashy, but i was never comfortable sitting in most of the "driver's" seats. and yeah they're nicer... nice and expensive, but if that's your bag go for it... that's why they make em. but for what he (and myself) were looking for a bowrider is good enough, and plenty affordable. to each his own
4/26/2007 12:09:33 AM
Buy Adams cousins toyotawas used in the Xgames a few years ago, seems like a good buy and I know its for sale if he still owns it, he was keeping it at my brothers house for awhile
4/26/2007 1:23:37 AM
wakeboard specific boats are great, if you only go to the lake on weekdays, cus in any type of chop or rough water you will get pounded to death and can stick the nose alot if youre using a lot of ballast. They usually have >5.7 liter v8s that suck gas because they have no trim.
4/26/2007 9:28:01 AM
4/26/2007 10:01:02 AM
^nice boats
4/26/2007 1:19:57 PM
how does the saying go?The two happiest days in a boat owners life the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
4/26/2007 1:22:26 PM
they're a money pit but i'll be damned if they're not a fun one.
4/26/2007 1:52:45 PM
^^ Where does the first time you get laid on it fit in?
4/26/2007 1:56:04 PM
anyone know of a good older style bass boat for sale?found an astroglass i may be interested in if the engine pans out, 100hp motor cant hurt...dont really need it for a bass boat but hey...who cares.
4/26/2007 2:16:18 PM
whats the difference between a boat and a trashcan full of burning money?the trashcan
4/26/2007 5:41:45 PM
^^ You do need 100HP. As this guy at the beach once said..."Them bass must be some fast fucking fish!"If anyone wants a 35HP outboard and a trailer I think my brother had his on Craigslist. The transom is fubared, but the boat comes with it if you want to do some heavy duty repair work.http://raleigh.craigslist.org/boa/316672282.html[Edited on April 26, 2007 at 6:04 PM. Reason : l]
