Hi all,I'm a new transfer, and taking one class each summer session. The transportation website is not very informative about summer parking. What's the story on summer session parking permits, how much do they cost, are they split into zones like fall/spring permits, can I use a buddy's, etc.

Summer Parking information is here http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/trans/parking/permits/student/summerPermits.htmlYes, they are split into zones like the fall/spring, and this page tells you the zones, and how much they cost for the year...divide the amount by 12, take that, multiply it by three for three months the pass will be valid, and that's how much it is.http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/trans/parking/permits/student/summerPermits.html

thanks, found all the official info now.so what do most people do for summer parking?

depends where your classes are and how far you want to walk. A bunch of the back streets off of hillsborough have free 2 hr parking but it's first come first serve and they are pretty good about ticketing you if you park there for a long period of time. There are also pay lots at coliseum deck and dan allen deck.

i had summer classes both sessions last summer and parked in the dan allen parking deck all summer long and i did not get a single ticket.....granted i did kind of park in the back as to not draw attention to my truck but nonetheless still parked in that deck all summer longthere are plenty of spots in the summer as many students are not in raleigh

my plan this summer is to do the same as last summer and if i start getting ticketed i will just have to ride the wolfline

just park on the top levelyou wont get a ticket

What's the best way to get into coliseum deck from west campus direction? I know there's an entrance down across from the gym, but is there an entrance off the road that goes to the bookstore, too? I'm getting a permit there for the fall and I'm trying to plan my route in to avoid traffic tie-ups around 12pm or so.

yeah, that road that goes to the bookstore has an entrance too

^nah its pretty well true, at least the few blocks closest to campus. The less conspicuous car might get away with it though. With the little summer traffic it'll be assured you'll get a ticket though. Never parked more than 3 blocks out, so they may just have free (i.e. no time on signs) curb parking that far away.

I guess my main question is, how legit is it to get a friend to put my car's info on his year-long pass and let me use it for the summer?

go for it

find someone who has a year deck pass (that isnt using it over the summer), and buy it from them at a discount

I've got a DE that I wont be using over the summer. I dunno if it's legal for me to sell it to you. But if it is, ill give it to you for around 25 bucks.

^can i seriously sell it back to transportation? how do I do that. Thanks!

Walk in with permitTell them you won't be needing it for the summer. Profit!===seriously, I had to buy a permit for Summer II once and it cost $4.

^^ you take the permit to the transportation office, and they prorate it. I got like 50-60 bucks for mine when I took my deck pass back a few years ago.[Edited on April 22, 2007 at 9:26 PM. Reason : .]

are you allowed to trade parking permits. I got a DD right now but it would be really handy to be able to switch it out for a DC permit b.c my one class on main campus is in daniels.
4/23/2007 4:47:49 PM
those two cost the same, so just walk into the transportation office and tell them that you want to trade your DD for a DC, give them your DD, and they give you a DC
