Ok, so I noticed a bump on me today - I won't tell exactly where (not the junk, don't worry). I noticed it because I felt a tiny itch in the vicinity and when I went to scratch it and as HOLY SHIT that fucker's pretty big. Almost like a marble under my skin.So first instinct? Squeeze it, right? So I did and it popped kinda, and started oozing what looked like a mix of blood and puss - not super dark for the most part. It shrank a little but it's still about the diameter of a dime and about half as thick/deep.Any ideas? Horrible pimple, a cyst, some kind of goofy infection maybe? The area around it is otherwise normal as far as I can tell... skin's stretched pretty tight over it so I'm guessing it really is pretty new.Thanks...

does it feel numb at all?

it is probably bacteria or ingrown hair (or combination).if it someplace that might get damp (pits, crotch, inner thigh, upper leg), keep the shit dry by throwing some baby powder or antiperspirant. Make sure you wash you clothes regularly, bacteria can grow when you don't wash your clothes after wearing (jeans/pants/shorts can get bacteria growth in the crotchal/upper thigh area).

yeah, keep it clean & dry and wait it out
4/18/2007 4:47:14 PM
you could lance it, but it's likely to just make it worse....not really much you can do except letting it run its course.

Could just be a cyst.Is it painful/tender, or does it just itch?It sounds pretty damn big... My honest recommendation is for you to go to a dermatologist. They can drain it (not painful) and get a sample of its contents sent off to a lab for analysis. They can tell you if there's bacteria growing in it or not and determine whether you need antibiotics to keep it from coming back.Had some dumb shit like that appear on my back once, the doc drained it, checked it, said it was fine and after he did what he did it was completely gone in about a week.[/sharing ridiculous personal medical history on tww]

without more details about location it is hard to make an accurate diagnosis. definately no matter what keep it cleaned very well. you can use antibacterial hand soap to clean it when you take a shower. It is easier to get the liquid into the wound. also, is this the first time you've had something like this or have you had them before? and does it continue to drain anything? skip

How long should I stop lifting for a chest strain? Well at least I'm thinking it's a chest strain. It hurts, but only when I move around or stand up, not at all when I breathe normally. It's at the bottom of the left side of the chest above the ribcage and wraps around to the side. Not horrible but I don't want to injure it more.** Also, what are some good ways to speed up the healing? I use a heating pad before I go to bed just to loosen it up so I can sleep easier..[Edited on May 17, 2007 at 11:54 AM. Reason : x]

^^Heat may provide symptomatic relief, but I don't recall any studies ever showing that heat actually assists with healing or changing the inflammatory process (like ice does).

^^^ I went to the doctor for something that sounds like that this afternoon. Normally I wouldn't, but I wanted to make sure I didn't injure myself more while I'm on vacation. The doctor said just use heat and take some advil. He did say that you have to do both regularly to get the benefit, though, which it sounds like you are.
