I just saw it tonight. It was one of the best scary movies I've seen in a long time.

Also I thought Rear Window was pretty slow. Not one of my favorite Hitchcock and/or Jimmy Stewart Movies.

when i first saw the trailer, i was like "rear window!"

but i think this movie will actually stand on its own. 50+ years is definitely a point where "newer" generations don't have the patience for the pace of old movies. plus it's not identical.

i'm accepted the fact that nothing is "original" anymore.

i'm not saying it's not a great movie. i will always hold a special place for "the birds" and several other "classics."

but it's not easy to make the new teenage audience sit through an old b/w film. so they're cashing in on it.

I really doubt it. I've only seen the trailer, but I'd put money down that it's total crap.

saw it tonight. absolutely loved it, as did my gf. it was really entertaining and shia was great as usual. it's the best of it's genre since scream...it's not as forced as the recent pg-13 "thrillers" that have come out. it won't win any awards, but it's a fun movie going experience.

oh there is an homage to hitchcock in the movie...just remembered.

it's something about wondering if bancroft used a body double in the graduate, and then shia says "you know she would've showed some boobs if it was a hitchcock movie" or something like that.

I never saw the original, but this is a good flick. No lulls or annoying get in touch w/ the main character's feelings kind of moments. pure thriller.

the product placement was amusing.

first hour was slow, but it was supposed to be. glad they didn't draw out the end.

overall good flick. nothing amazing, no huge twists. but fun to watch.

thanks for the bump

yes, it is about the lawsuit:

Quote :
"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Steven Spielberg and major Hollywood studios stole the plot from Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1954 film "Rear Window" in making last year's "Disturbia," a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court on Monday said.

Dreamworks, its parent company Viacom Inc, and Universal Pictures, a unit of General Electric Co's NBC Universal, are accused of copyright infringement and breach of contract for making "Disturbia" without first obtaining permission from the copyright holders, the suit said.

Spielberg, a Dreamworks founder, is named as a defendant. The film grossed about $80 million at the U.S. box office.

According to the lawsuit, filed by the Sheldon Abend Revocable Trust, the basis for Hitchcock's 1954 film was "Murder from a Fixed Viewpoint," a short story by Cornell Woolrich.

Hitchcock and actor James Stewart obtained the motion picture rights to the story in 1953. The lawsuit argues that Dreamworks should have done the same.

"What the defendants have been unwilling to do openly, legitimately and legally, (they) have done surreptitiously, by their back-door use of the 'Rear Window' story without paying compensation," the lawsuit said.

A spokesman for Spielberg declined to comment. Representatives of Viacom and NBC Universal were not immediately available for comment.

According to the lawsuit, "Disturbia" and the "Rear Window" story are "essentially the same." Both are murder mysteries beginning with a man who, while peering from his window, witnesses strange behavior in the home of his neighbor.

The protagonist in all three of the works behaves in essentially the same way, interacts with similar characters and the plot unfolds in basically the same way, the lawsuit said.

"In the Disturbia film the defendants purposefully employed immaterial variations or transparent rephrasing to produce essentially the same story as the Rear Window story," the lawsuit said.

In reviewing "Disturbia," the New York Times called it "a kind of adolescent 'Rear Window.'" The Toronto Star newspaper called it "a rip off with wit.""

I dont like his acting at all. I think many people look past his bad acting b/c they are focusing on the extremely hot girls that have been beside him the past two movies

2 out of 3 ain't bad....

caruso has some interesting talent, spielberg is a legend, but shia is not fit to hold Y's jock... i'd rather they give it to joseph gordon leavitt, who at least has shown an increase in his abilities over the last 5 years

alas poor yorrick...
